You can't use these by themselves. They're clamps with a nail pre-attached and preloaded with a small charge. You need a specific nail gun for these things that are sold separately.They are loud and there is debris when it's fired into the surface you're putting into. Absolutely wear hearing and eye protection and make sure there are no unprotected bystanders nearby. Having said all that, it works great.I had some exterior pipes where the original clamps had failed and deteriorated. Using a spring nail gun and these, I was able to quickly and easily resecure the pipe to the wall. In one press on the gun, I got a loud bang, some bits of wall and other debris flying at me, but the end result was a very nice, secure clamp for my water pipe.

The nails are well made, solid and sturdy, and performed as advertised. We had no problems using them with Husband's nail gun.
