I have a Coleman hatchet that I use for camping and I'll use that as a comparison for this camp axe/hatchet. First the Pros: this camp x hatchet is slightly bigger and heavier than the Coleman. His construction is similar in that the handle feeds into a nylon/rubber grip. Both grip very well but this one is probably a little better because it flares out at the bottom. The Coleman relies on finger notches built into the grip but doesn't have the flare at the bottom. Between being slightly heavier (around 2.5 lbs vs. 2 lbs for the Coleman) and this flare, I would be more confident in swinging this harder for heavy-duty chopping. Also, this hatchet comes with a sheath as well as a blade guard but the Coleman only comes with a blade guard - no sheath. I can only think of two cons when compared to my old Coleman. The first is at the Coleman has a notch that allows for pulling tent stakes and similar functionality. This ax lacks that. Also, I think the fit and finish of the Coleman is a little more refined. You can see in one of the pics that there is a gap between the steel handle and the rubber grip. I don't think it will affect anything but thought I'd mention it. And lastly, the only other drawback is the price. This hatchet is almost three times the cost of the Coleman at the time of this review. Since I don't think the extra weight and nylon sheath are worth almost double the price of the hatchet itself, this makes the Coleman the better buy in my opinion but YMMV if you disagree.

Well balanced hand axe for around work at home or for a camping tool. I got this for when i need something smaller that my long handle heavy duty axe. The handle is nicely padded and provide a firm and solid grip when using the axe. It comes with a nylon cover to protect the head and your hands when not in use. One suggested change is to relocate the snap closest to the handle to make it easier to snap it closed when storing the axe. A great little tool.

This is a nice hatchet. Full steel body with a rubber handle. It's sharp out of the box.

I do a lot of work outside my home. One of the tools that comes in handy is a hatchet. When I saw the WICING 13.8 inch hatchet I decided to give it a try.PIC1 (I have labeled each picture in the the upper right corner because they do not always appear in the order I add them to the review) shows what you get. This includes the hatchet and a cover. The hatchet is made from 1065 high manganese steel which is good when you want hardness, toughness and wear resistance. I weighed it and it came in at 39.45 ounces (2.46 pounds). The heavy duty nylon cover has two snaps to hold it in place when covering the hatchet and can be seen covering the hatchet in PIC2. The cover has a convenient belt loop on the back and is shown in PIC3. It has approximately a 2 inch opening for your belt. All of the construction on the cover is good and it appears to be well made. The cutting edge of the hatchet is quite sharp. One nice feature on this hatchet is the curve in the handle (PIC1). It fits very nicely in my hand. I found the rubber grip to be comfortable. I found the weight of 2.46 pounds to be heavy which is an advantage when you want to cut through something (as compared to a lighter hatchet). If you are looking for a hatchet that will last for a long time you should consider the WICING 13.8 inch hatchet. It will get the job done!

I should have known better than to buy this off-brand on Amazon. As a camper of 30+ years, I've used plenty of hatchets. While the case and grip are nice, too much of this hatchet's weight is in the handle. The blade is very thin and light, so it really struggles at its main job of splitting logs into kindling. Now that I've used it, I have to eat the cost and either struggle with this one or buy something different. Next time, I will just go to the local hardware store.
