Always worry about items like this if they are "cut and polished" right to be food safe. In my opinion this item is great. The one that we got is perfect, and worked great for our matcha.

I thought I may have received a defective scoop, but now that I look at the picture in the listing, I see that it is not completely smooth. There's a dent/seam in the middle of the handle.
