This box is beautiful! It is well made and is bigger than many other products like it. The wood itself has a nice grain and finish and the inside of the box has a nice lining. I bought this as a gift for my son who has become quite a fan of DnD and he absolutely loved it. It also comes with a journal, which he uses during his sessions. It works well for his needs and holds plenty of dice. It also came in super cool packaging. Well worth the dollars spent!

This has pros and cons:Pros:- The dragon emblem and wooden "chest" feels very cool and classic if a bit cheesy.- The removable interior compartments are cool.- The journal's raised cover graphics are very cool and dragon-y. I like the "parchment" looking interior pages that could serve as an in-character reflection area... It really encourages you to take good weekly notes at your D&D game.Cons:- When open, the case lid just hangs at an awkward angle, meaning that it takes up a lot of valuable table space AND is probably the first thing to break.- The dice compartments are really not a great size for dice. It's hard to get to them and they lie on top of each other.- The journal is a one-time use deal.- The felt base is pretty thin and dice crack loudly when they land, even acrylic dice. If you're at home, it could be okay, but if you're in a crowded location (like a game store), that's too much. You don't need thunderclaps to announce you rolled a 3.- Most importantly, it's too heavy and big to take to your game. (I mean, you can do it, but it's not the best way to do it.)Verdict:The game accessories market is tricky, because you don't NEED any of this to play D&D, so it has to make it so much easier or so much cooler to be worth the cost. This isn't easier than anything, and it's not cool enough to make up for it.If your friend or your favorite uncle built something like this, that's amazing and awesome and thoughtful. If you're buying it (around $40 at the time of this review), you can get a product that will meet your needs much better for less or not much more. I have reviewed some of them, so I know they're out there.(If you're looking to be super-thrifty, you can get a dice tray and a pencil case very cheaply, and you can throw them in a bag and go with lots of dice and very little weight.)There's nothing WRONG with this item, it's just not RIGHT enough to earn its place in your game night kit.Keep looking.

It is not often that I rave that something is well worth twice the Price, but this one is. The box is made of real wood, not some inexpensive wood composite. The stain looks classy and the dragon print on the cover is nicely detailed. On the inside there is an adventure journal that can be useful to either a player or a DM. The journal has a tassel page holder that allows you to mark where you are in the campaign. The journal has a real leather feel, and the design of the cover is just fantastic. I honestly would have not issue paying the price of this set for just the journal. The latch closure can to the box itself can be a little tricky at first because it is made to work like a medieval magical latch, but that only adds to the charm of this exquisite box set. This is not just the perfect gift; this is a must buy for all D&D Players that collect dice trays. Oh, I almost forgot the 3-compartment dice holder is lined with felt and can be used for miniatures as well. If you wanted to, you could remove the compartment separators and using it for pencils, condition marker or anything else you might want to use. I can't wait to whip this out at my next session and make everyone at the table jealous and have them ask "Where can I get one?"

The main box is a bit nicer and much better constructed than I was expecting. The hinges and latch feel sturdy enough and the lid is mounted flush with the box. This is significant because some of these types of products are much more shoddily made, so it's refreshing to see something that actually looks and feels nice.Having said that, it should be noted that although this doesn't feel "cheap," it is still made out of less expensive materials. If you're tossing it into a bag where it can get jostled around by your PHB or other heavy books, it may or may not hold up.The interior has a main, large tray that is perfect for dice rolling, and three smaller trays that can store dice, minis, etc. However, it should be noted that only the bottom of the interior is lined with the black velvet material. This is important if you want to use one of the smaller compartments for your character mini. Likely you'll want to add some additional padding material so the mini doesn't bang around the wood side walls and potentially scratch the paint.Probably the coolest thing is the included notebook. The faux leather cover is styled for DnD or any other fantasy RPG, with a textured relief of a dragon and castle on the cover and a coppery finish. The pages are lined for easy note-taking. The pages alternate between a groups of lighter pages and groups of darker pages. While interesting from a visual perspective and as a means to create separate sections of the notebook, it's a bit disjointed as the darker pages have fake weathering on the edges, while the lighter pages do not so they don't go together. Also, I feel like the darker pages are just a bit TOO dark. From a functional standpoint, lighter pages would make for easier note-taking.Overall, this is a pretty cool set that I think has some quirks that would prevent me from using it as a main gaming accessory. It's a bit on the large size, for one. I'd be far more likely to just use the notebook and toss my dice into bag along with a collapsible dice tray. Also, the box itself, although designed to be its own dice tray, would take up considerable real estate on a gaming table. The other issue, as mentioned above, is that it would need some modding in order to be safe for transporting a painted mini.Even so, this would make for a nice gift for a gamer. The box looks and feels nice and would be a great shelf storage option for gaming accessories and the price point is reasonable for what you get.
