I have recently become a chicken tender and was so excited to get these toys for my ladies. Unfortunately I live in a desert and the ground is very rough. Normally to get decorations or similar things in I have to use a rubber mallet. I’m not able to use a mallet on these because the top of the spike has the attachment for the toy that is very light plastic and would break along with the spike being very lightweight I don’t think it could stand up to the ground or mallet. I’m going to try sticking it in a planter so they can use it. The globes are easy to fill.

This toy came with clear instructions that were easy to understand and follow. The toy assembles quickly, and it comes apart for refilling the treat dispenser. The spring is very sensitive; it does not require much effort at all from your chickens to get the ball moving and dispensing the treat (so it should attract and interest them quicker!). It is Winter for me right now, so installing the stake in the ground was not easy. I was not able to get it too far into the ground, and my options of location were very limited. Also, we have been experiencing high winds, which my chickens hate. They came out, checked it out and ate some of the spilled scratch grains, then ran right back into their coop. Until the worst of the Winter is done in these parts, I don't think my chickens will enjoy much of anything, but I know that they will love this toy because my girls love their treats!

This is a plastic ball, slightly over 3", with holes in it.. It has a cap that is then attached to a spring, which is attached to a spike.. You fill the ball up with food, and the chickens peck and peck, till food falls out.. I set this up with shredded cabbage and carrots, and threw in some corn. One thing I noticed right away is that the opening is small, unless you are pouring in some kind of seeds or feed. The other problem I had was that the ground in the chicken run was compacted. You can't hammer the spike in, because there is a plastic connector at the top . I had to go get some tools from my shop, make a hole, and then put the feeder in.My chickens were curious. One came right over and pecked at it. The spring allows the feeder to kinda bounce around. At first the hen was a little frightened, but she did come right back. So this feeder was ok, but I did have some issues. I am going to try again, with different food.

These will frustrate and entertain your birds to no end and are hilarious to watch.

Meh. These were okay. Not awful, not great, just okay. They bend under the weight of the scratch. We had to get out our little earth auger drill bit thing to get these in the ground without messing them up - but we have hard-packed clay instead of normal soil. Chickens seemed kind of ambivalent about them for the most part, but eventually they would empty them out. One of them just broke last week after roughly 2 months of use.

My girls were not interested in these toys unless I was standing there making the scratch come out of them. After a couple of weeks they failed to develop any interest in getting the scratch by themselves. It's a neat idea and they're well-made. But, as I said, it's not something my chickens, at least, will use.
