Hermit crabs climb and sit at the top. They also love to go behind it. The suction cups work just fine when used appropriately. Just adjust the string. There was no weird smell when I opened the package. They've been in the tank since November and show no signs of mold or mildew. Love them!

I actually ordered these for my leopard gecko tank. He loves the new addition and enjoys climbing on it and just hanging out on it. The suction cups hold well, even with him climbing on it. I'm sure it's just as great for birds!

Used this in my hermit 'crabitat' for some different arrangement options and additonal levels for them to explore. They love transferring from this to their rope, or even just hanging out. Hard to catch them in action when it's bright out, since they're mostly active at night. Trust me when I say it is a welcome addition.This does start to smell as the humidity seeps into the material, a smell reminiscent of wet gym shoes. Will clear out when hung outside in the sun, but it is here to stay since they love it.

We had to throw them out because they just keep holding mold even after cleaning them.
