I never thought I would be reviewing anything for a gutter but we're installing new gutters around our entire home and cook hut and getting this set of 2 gutter downspouts was handy. Our project just started, each downspout with filter was placed on each end of a long run and already have been showing their value in preventing leaves and sticks from clogging the pipes. Eventually we'll add an entire screen system on top and purchase more of these downspout filter to insert into the bottom or downspouts to prevent lizards and small vermin to enter. These spouts are very well made and popped into place easily and then firmly secured with the included screws. I love the clean look. Great price for this compared to box store prices.

I expect these gutter drops to perform as well as aluminum ones I've used in the past. I do have concerns though that for situations that are exposed to repeated stresses - for example hanging gutters that swing in the wind - that any plastic connectors, not just these but any, could crack and fail under the stress. Thus for such situations I will always use metal drop connectors between gutters and downspouts, but for the typical, stable set up I think these will be great.I like to bed drops in roof cement so I will not use the enclosed screws at all, but if you do use the screws (requiring drilling into the gutter) they look to me a bit undersized. Thus you might consider the cement method and/or substituting screws with deeper threads for better grip.The manufacturer has noted that they increased the depth of the product, thus presumably solving some problem with an older design. The plastic is reasonably thick and tough, not brittle, and the depth seems more than adequate.I am agnostic about the leaf screen design. Where there is very little tree litter it might be fine, but where large quantities of leaves and debris are dropped I prefer rolling up a piece of screening to place vertically in the drop. That provides far more surface area of screening so a gutter will continue flowing with a lot more leaf litter before the flow is constipated to a backed-up situation (ice dams, etc.). However the leaf grid design is not really a problem since it is cut away very easily with tin snips should I decide to use my vertical screening method. This product's design thus gives me an extra option not a limitation.Currently a pair of these drops is priced at nine dollars. That is in step with competing products. I remember buying 2x3 aluminum drops for under a dollar around 20 years ago but those days are gone. So I do wince a bit at $4.50 each but expect that's a pretty typical value these days, so I won't reduce my rating based on value. If however you need a quantity of drop connectors I strongly suspect buying in quantity there must be places where you can get twice the value.

This downspout outlet filter fits perfectly with my downspout and is very easy to install by just two screws. It looks very sturdy. After installation, it doesn’t affect water flow and effectively prevents clogs and small animals from getting in. It will make my future gutter maintenance much easier.

This is the actual drain, it will not fit in existing drains. You cut the hole in the gutter then drop this in. There are a couple of issues with that. First, you will need to caulk it well or you'll have leaks. Second, you can't remove it if you need to clean it out. Most filters are removable, this one is permanent.

These rain gutter filters are made of a thick white plastic that feels really durable.One of the things you should check before ordering these filters is whether the cutout of our downspout pipe rectangular or not. Some rain gutters use a round cutout and won't work with this shape.Otherwise, installation can't be any easier. You just drop these in and you're good to go. It comes with 2 screws but I decided not to use them since it was a snug enough fit without the need for the screws.The filter holes are big enough to let my shingle crumbs and other loose dirt to flow through without any issue while keeping out leaves that are larger than the holes.

I wasn’t sure if this would make a big difference, but after a few rainy days, I can see it’s helping. Installation was simple, I just slid it into place, and it fit snugly without needing any adjustments. The screws provided were sturdy, and the material feels durable. When I checked after a storm, I noticed fewer leaves and twigs gathering in the downspout, though some smaller debris still made it through. Cleaning has been easier since there’s less buildup at the bottom. It’s not a perfect solution, but it definitely cuts down on the amount of debris and gives me peace of mind during heavy rain.
