Edit: 2 weeks later: I'm upgrading to 5 stars, why? I ended up moving the fanlight to the kitchen/dining area where the existing lamp is lower, so the fanlight sits about 15 inches lower than in the recessed light fixture in the living room. Also, in the dining area, people either sit at the table or walk around, being closer to the fan. In that setting, the wind current of the fan is felt very strongly and is very comfortable. Being able to change the light intensity is also particularly useful above the dining room table. So, while it can be used with reccessed lightening, it is much more effective when installed below the ceiling. It is appreciated in the dining room and is going to stay there.Initial review: I ordered this light and fan combination because it promised easy installation. My first impression is that it looks and feels much more solid than I had anticipated. I particularly like that it comes with an extensor piece and also a remote. I planned to use this combo with recessed lighting. It was easy to set up. With the extensor piece it is a perfect fit for a recessed light fixture and with the wide bulb piece it looks really good and solid. The remote has separate controls for the light and for the fan. I love the light options: 3 different mood modes, from friendly to stark light. Within each mood setting the light intensity can also be adjusted. There are 5 different fan speeds, although I don't see a great difference between 1 and 5. In addition, the remote also has buttons for a 2 hour, 4 hour, and 8 hour preset shut off. I tested the 2 hours shut off and it worked well. The light automatically shut off after 2 hours. The fan runs very quietly. The disappointing part is the airflow. I sat on my recliner about 5 feet under the fan and only felt a weak air current. I had to get up and move my face close to the fan, about 1.5 feet away, before I began to feel a satisfactory breeze. As a ceiling fan it is just not strong enough. It works much better in a setup that's only about 2 feet away from where airflow is needed.Other considerations: The blades only fit one way and they cannot be reversed. I also don't see an option for buying replacement fan blades or a replacement light bulb. So, while it is a solidly made fan light with a very useful remote and many functions, the fan is only effective within 2 to 3 feet.

I was super excited for this socket fan! I got it to help keep my dogs cool in the summer since they get really hot, and I usually have a portable fan aimed at their kennels. I thought this would be a cleaner solution — just screw it into the light socket above their kennels and done!Assembly was super easy and the fan looks great, but unfortunately, it didn't function the way we hoped. Instead of blowing air down, it actually pulls air up, which created zero downward breeze where the dogs are. So the main reason I bought it just didn’t work out.We ended up repurposing it in the kitchen, where it surprisingly works well to help suck up cooking smells toward the vent when frying food. That pivot saved it from being a total loss.I really wish the remote had an option to reverse airflow — either to blow air down or pull air up. Not sure if ours was a fluke since other reviewers say it worked well for them, but we even double-checked the fan blades and there's only one way to install them.Cool concept, just didn’t meet our needs.
