I used this in an outdoor application for a wind sensor for my water fountain. When the wind blows, a wind vane rotates and the reed sensor counts the rotations. I didn't expect the reed switch to last through many duty cycles, but was pleasantly surprised when it counted millions of cycles over a several year period. They are very brittle, however, and must be handled with great care. Don't try to bend the wire leads without first supporting them near the glass.

They work but can be a bit finicky depending on the strength or direction of the applied magnet. I broke the glass of a couple of them just trying to mount one to a breadboard. The breaks were probably my fault. The glass at the very ends is very fragile. If you need to bend the leads I would suggest you stabilize them with a plier or encase them in an epoxy if that suits your project.

The market for SPDT reed switches is small, and the selection is likewise small. But these are a great value as long as you don't expect too much of them in the way of durability. Even for glass reed switches, these are remarkably easy to break. You'll want box the entire thing or coat it in RTV or some other durable staking material.

This product was delivered in a timely manner and undamaged. The switches were packaged in a strong, small plastic protective box.All ten switches were tested for continuity. Eight switches worked as NO & NC, and two switches worked as NO or NC. A magnet changed the state of all 10 switches from 2-3" away. Very impressed.

This thing has become the most defended tool in my kit, because everyone I know has wanted one as soon as they saw it. Crazy amount of features for the price, works like a charm. Would make a great gift for that nerd you know.

Needed a way to control led lights in my shed and these were the answer. Use a relay or a solid state equivalent and handle with care as they are very delicate and will not handle high current.

Worked great -- I tested them and all 11 out of 10 passed! (there was an extra one in the package). Closed was nominally 1 ohm. With a small rare-earth magnet, range was up to an inch and a half, depending on how the magnet was oriented.I think people have too-high expectations for reed relays. These are made of glass, so they are very delicate. This SPDT version has two leads in one side, so it is even more delicate. I cut the leads slightly shorter (I'm not sure if this affects sensitivity as the leads were ferrous) and didn't bend them at all. I used heatshrink to insulate them. Finally, these are signal relays - they aren't meant to switch much current or voltage. Use them for digital inputs, not as a power switch.

I went through 5 of them before I used one that didn’t break from the slightest touch. Frustrating because changing them out sucks :(
