Honestly not sure on exactly on the accuracy of the device. It works well enough to test the cleanliness of my laminar flow hood which is why I purchased it. As I would move it from a dirty environment and to the front of my flow hood and watch the digits fall to zero I’d let it sit there for about 5 mins and move it away from the flow hood and watch the numbers rise again. Did it multiple times to ensure it wasn’t a fluke along with a few other tests. I just thought to test against the air quality index will update afterwards

I bought this air quality monitor in February. So glad I did. It has given me proof of what my neighbour below is doing to my apartment air quality. For reference the last image shows the typical air quality in my apartment with windows open. I do have Corsi-Rosenthals on 24/7.

It does what is says, though I’m not so sure about its accuracy but overall, it gives you a good ideathe air quality you are breathing in your home.

Accurate device, based on a standard and highly respected sensor module, the PMS-5003.To test the low-end of the device's readings and calibration, I operated the unit in a small vacuum chamber, with a USB battery attached to the device, and pumped on the chamber a few minutes with a small HVAC vane-type oil-filled mechanical vacuum pump, to give a good-enough, rough vacuum. I watched the device's display through the thick plexiglas lid of the vacuum chamber. Readings started to drop soon after pumping. When the rough vacuum gauge reached 0.0 psi, all readings of the meter quickly became "0.0". Very satisfying. Any particles that had been in the air in the chamber were exhausted from the chamber and from the device. Any particles which may have remained in the device's sensor must have fallen under 1-g of gravity, and were no longer suspended in the particulate Mie-scattering chamber of the laser section: all air to suspend dust particles was gone. This is pretty certainly an -- or, THE -- "acid-test" for the low-end of the sensing device's readings.By the way, the USB battery and the meter device survived being in vacuum for the several minutes of the test, and the device sprang back to action and gave non-zero readings among the particle-size list screen again as soon as air was allowed back into the chamber. The device was then taken out and put into service. Battery and meter are "no-worse-for-the-wear" of being in vacuum a short while.I'm very happy with the outcome of the test and with the device's performance, price, and quick delivery. Kudos!, Amazon.I think I need a second such unit, to let them "war" against each other; the price certainly allows this easily.Because the device seems in many ways so fine, we could wish that the device would also either (1.) log data, or, (2.) send it over the USB cable to an App, or laptop prgm. But, no; or, not yet?I'll watch official PM and AQI readings here in my city and see if we agree on which are "good" and "bad" days in our dusty desert. In the two days since the device was delivered, AQI has been good, very good. I notice a diurnal-effect on weekdays: rush-hour(s) in morning and afternoon lead to elevated values of 0.3 and 0.5 micron dust readings: cars stir-up desert dust from the paved roads. All best from Tucson ARIZONA, --Joe / W7DXWEDIT: Added June 8, 2023Here, I'm adding a photo I took of the AQI meter in my vacuum chamber, showing all zeroes for the range of particle sizes. Just as it should, when in vacuum. This result gives me confidence that the device is responding to and measuring real quantities (both in air, and in vacuum!).

I wanted a particle counter to check the indoor air quality of my house during wildfire season. I loved the DIY look of this device. Unfortunately when I plugged it in I saw 0's across the board. This is the 2nd unit I purchased with the same issue. I thought the first one was a one off. Luckily Amazon returns are fairly easy.

Shows almost pristine air quality in an enclosed room with no fewer than three stinking sputtering 3D printers. It seems to be able to detect a perfectly hot-boxed bathroom, but anything short of nearly opaque, choking death fumes fail to show any meaningful reading. Your nose is 10X more accurate.

EDIT2 years later and it's still goin 24/7. Nowadays I leave display on other page without the color coded 'AQI' propaganda.//End of EDITI deducted 1 star because the super cool color coded AQI display feature is buggy. It appears to be accurate. It agree's with my other devices and online reports.I am a happy camper and think it is a good value. I had admittedly low expectations. The display is for the most part excellent. It has some issues when the readings are high.I like that it is USB powered and has a lighted display!!! A small battery would not last or be paired with an inferior LCD display and limit measurements because the fan uses a lot of electrons.I like the open frame DIY look and feel.I like that it uses a GD32F103 micro. There is a huge online STM32 community for DIY types. It's based on a Plantower PMS5003 sensor. No mystery, documentation available online. The following flaw only affects one of the two pages available for display. The color coded AQI display page has a MAJOR FLAW. If the reading is high and the AQI is in the "Severely Polluted" (over 300) range the display color (dark burgandy) is very hard to read. It is useless in a car in bright light like the sun. If they must use that color to match their government propaganda chart color then they should change background color to maintain some contrast. I think the person who decided to advertise this for car usage never tested it in a car. Look at the photo of the colorbar in the ad and notice the right end is dark! The display has a MINOR BUG also. When the AQI@PM2.5 reading is 0(zero) it should be green. This uses a range of 1-50 for green color output and it should use range 0-50 for green color output. Of all the wrong colors it could use guess which one it uses to try and let you know the air is perfect. LOLThe interface changes between "USA" and possibly china. They are ignorant that in USA degrees are NOT displayed in Centigrade or Kelvin. Many English speaking folks use Centigrade but not the "USA".IMneverHO the typical American will be dis-satisfied with that 'feature'.Initially my purchasing decision was down to a bare nekkid Plantower PMS5003 sensor or this device based on that sensor. To me it's worth a few extra $$$ for an out of the box mostly working example!YMMV :-)

Looks rudimentary but is more accurate than 2 others purchased for twice as much. Works so well, I actually purchased 2 - one for both floors of my house.

I like the LCD screen, nicer to look at than an alpha-numeric display. More importantly, it seems to be accurate as measured against government equipment and follows air quality conditions as you'd expect (such as turning on or off an air purifier). I don't think I'd mount it on a dashboard as some do. While I like its bare bones lab equipment aesthetic, it would look out of place in a car. It also has a tiny running fan in it, asking it to put up will thousands of potholes could be a bit much.It does lack a battery, so your not going to be able take it everywhere you may want unless you get a usb power bank.It is simple to use (doesn't even need instructions apparently), affordable and accurate. Thank you unknown Chinese guys!
