It appears very well made and is simple enough that no one should have a problem using it. That said, I'm going to quote another reviewer with an excellent suggestion: "For best results, freeze the to-be-filled 1lb tanks and leave the 20lb out in the sun before filling. Weigh the tanks before and after to know for sure what you're putting in." Excellent suggestions.

Recently ordered to save money on my 1lb propane tanks. I've been very happy with the performance of this refill valve. The build quality is good, it's simple to use, and it saved me money after only a few uses.I go through about 10-12 1lb propane tanks each summer and this has already paid for itself. A bonus for the environment too!

This transfer adapter works well. I've used it to refill my empty 1 lb. bottles from a 20 lb. tank. The 90° valve is handy to ensure "off" from the big tank. The gauge is okay but does not show much finesse. A half-full bottle and a 3/4th full bottle all read the same -- halfway into the green. Still got to weigh the bottles to check on how full they are. But, overall, I like this unit.

I love this refill adapter! I’ve been refilling 1lb propane tanks for my buddy heaters for many years using a simple plain tank adapter. While my old method worked this method works way better! I can attach it to the 20lb without a wrench and the nozzle sticks out nicely for easy access to attach the 1lb tank to be refilled. To top off that awesomeness it also has a gauge and shutoff valve! This is adapter is a must have for anyone who wants to refill their 1lb tanks with ease!

My old adapter did not have a valve on it. You attach it to the supply tank, open the valve and go. The red shut off allow you to purge a little air before attempting to fill the small canister, and it makes the fill process easier since the supply tank should be inverted when filling the small small canister.

The device attached easily to the 20 pound tank. Before opening the 20 pound tank valve, I open the red shutoff valve. Yes, you leak some propane out, but this is to flush any air out of the line. Then I twisted on the empty disposable canister. It quickly pressurized, and I was unimpressed with the minimal amount of propane that transferred. I untwisted the canister, and it was pretty light, indicating just gas left in the can, no liquid propane. I couldn't hear/feel any sloshing liquid. What to do? I thought hard and recollected from my highschool science class PV=NRT (or something like that), yeah, that's right. So, I chilled the canister in a bucket of ice with the shutoff valve closed. And lo and behold, the pressure in the canister slowly dropped. Opening the shutoff valve, I hear the gas flowing into the canister. I did this several times, and realized I should flip the canister to be under the 20 pound tank, so instead of transferring warm propane gas, liquid propane will flow to the cooler canister. Heating the 20 pound tank in the warm sun helps too. After removing the canister this time, I could feel the liquid sloshing. Connected my trusty blow torch and confirmed propane transfer. The seasoned camper or RV'er would've come up with the same transfer trick, but always good to know highschool science is good for real life scenarios. Wonder if the teachers are still alive, I'm sure they would be happy being remembered and relevant.
