I have always had a love hate relationship with automatic center punches. The ones that really worked were very expensive. The ones that were reasonably priced didn’t do the job they were supposed to do. These Shuixiong automatic center punches are the exception to the rule; they are, at $4.955 each, both very affordable and very efficient at doing the job they were meant to do.So far I have used these punches on wood, plastic, plexiglass, aluminum, and soft iron and they worked great. They’re underpowered for steel. Still, these punches are a must have for every tool guy and gal. Their one hand operation sure beats the old solid center punch and ball peen hammer routine hands down. With their one hand operation, you still have a hand to hold the workpiece steady.

I thought "Theres nothing to them to break. It's just a spring, a cup and a poker". From the very first time I used them both, neither 'snap' to create the momentum to indent the metal. The interior pieces fit so poorly that they do not work at all. I don't have high standards, but these are junk.

The “spring loaded” feature is to pull back and create a punch, but I didn’t understand that when I ordered them. I prefer a punch I can just hit with a hammer.

I ordered this punch because I was so tired of having to try to hold the punch on a pipe and try to hit it with a hammer with enough force to mark the spot for the drill to bite enough and not slide before getting the hole started. I needed to be an octopus to have enough hands to make this work. With this automatic punch it is one step , find the spot you want to drill and push down until the punch clicks and puts a dimple in the pipe. Very helpful, and compact sure to be that go to tool each and every time.
