Great VFL for troubleshooting fiber.Gets the job done. It is very bright. I was able to see the laser at the other side through 10,000 ft of fiber.

This VFL has a lightweight but sturdy aluminum body with knurling that makes it easy to hold on to. The cover is secure so it won’t accidentally get knocked off or come off. It has a rotating cover that covers the on/off/modulation switch so it can’t be accidentally turned on. The red laser is nice and bright which is a big plus.It comes with a Single Mode 9/125 SM ST male to LC female hybrid optical fiber adapter for additional functionality. It also includes a ceramic core. A lanyard can be attached to the VFL to help hold on to it. They also included a holster.Regarding the holster, throw it away. It’s an inch too short, but that’s not the big problem. It’s not really a holster. It’s just a folded piece of decent holster material folded over on itself with a way too big elastic sling. If you use it, the VFL will slip to the side, slide right through the elastic, and fall to the floor. Protect your VFL by throwing this away. DO NOT USE THE “HOLSTER”!Now, for the switch. Remember that cover that keeps it from being accidentally turned on? Nice feature but not needed. This switch is very hard to move. I have to use a fingernail to move it. I can’t move it with just my finger. It’s really awkward to use. Otherwise, it’s a solid VFL.Amazon Vine sent this product to me for an honest unbiased review. Would I recommend it? Yes, it really is a very nice VFL with a quirky switch and a dangerous “holster”.

This is pretty much a specialized laser flashlight, with a tip on the end that adapters will attach to. It includes an FC Male to UC Female fiber adapter. I think other adapters can be purchased for this unit too.The adapter has attenuation values written on the package, in case you are measuring valueof your light output (unknown values of optical power). The attenuation on the package shows how much the adapter causes the optical power of your fiber signal to drop.It works, with two AA batteries, not included, and you can connect it to one end of your fiber with the right adapter, and light will shine through and you can see it. This can also be done with a cheap flashlight as I mentioned, but this tester is a specialized piece of equipment. I assume it is to be used with anotherfiber test set as a light generator, but that is just an assumption.It has written on the box, 50mW which is the output of the laser light with a fresh set of batteries. The small carrying case is a nice feature, all in all a good buy.I would have rather seen some SC to ST, MTRJ etc adapters, maybe a whole adapter set included with this unit. It is not obvious where to obtain these adapters either. With some sleuthing I am sure I can find other adapters, so I can put it to full use.

Purchased the 2 pack last july, worked fantastic for almost 3months. Now the light is really dim no matter how many time i change batteries out. Both started failing at the same time. Imo invest a little more money for a better light.
