If you are new to this hobby this is the PERFECT beginner still that will, produce a GREAT finished product.Made of 304 Stainless steel, copper fixtures and stainless reinforced hose you can expect solid performance.13.2 gallon mash tub will give a yield of 3/4 to 1 GALLON of finished high proof shine. Thermometers are surprisingly accurate as I tested them agonist calibrated thermometers I have and thy are within 1 or maybe 2 degrees of true which is most acceptable. The kit has all you need in hardware except a water tank to put your water pump into. That can be a cheap 5 gallon plastic bucket or whatever. I would use plumbers tape at all connections in addition to the provided silicone gaskets to insure a leak free loop. You can make a wide variety of liquor, oils, even purity water if you want to, its very versatileREAD ALL INSTRUCTIONS and get familiar with proper cleaning and sanitizing methods. This has had a recent Price drop from $158.99 to $109.99 making this a GREAT DEALS. I RECOMMEND.

I am not going to try to rate this as an alcohol still, since that is not why I ordered it.I already steam distill essential oils from high-yield sources like citrus peels, using laboratory glass flasks and condensers. That is feasible since the volumetric yield from these peels is significant, and quantities of 5-10 ml of oil at a time are fairly simple to produce. I've looked at these stills as an option for lower yield sources - in particular, lavender and rosemary, both of which grow like weeds here and which get trimmed several times a year. I normally have gallons of trimmings each time, that I've wanted to process but previously end up in the green waste bin.The still went together easily, and the pump and condenser were set up to use a recirculating ice-water bath for condensing the steam/oil vapor mix. I did not need to use the thumper for this setup. It is stainless steel, and does not work on my induction ring, so I used my outdoor propane ring burner (one intended originally for a turkey fryer). The setup worked fine for extracting the rosemary trimmings - it is not the right season yet for lavender.I suspect it will work just as well for its original advertised purpose!

I am a complete newbie to essential oil making - or the various other uses this particular set might be used for - so this is going to be the initial review, which I know isn't very helpful. However, there *will* be a follow up review, so stay tuned, and if you are a complete newbie too at least you'll have a good idea what to expect. What to expect is a series of three sturdy pots: one really big, two of them smaller, and a set of directions on how to hook up the tubes between them. Follow the steps carefully and it's easy to do. My husband had it together quite quickly, and it seems to seal tightly and well. We tested the included thermometer against our outdoor temperature and they seemed to be in harmony with each other. I know enough about baking to know that when the time comes I should probably go ahead and do an ice water test on the thermometer, but it seems to be working properly. All the pieces were there and installed as they are supposed to.There are also some basic directions describing the distilling process, but while the directions are technically complete, they're really written for someone who knows what they're already doing. For example; they didn't describe what a thumper is for very well. I only know now because I looked it up. So if you are a newbie like me, plan on doing some serious research, preferably from several different sources. Once you have done so you will be able to go back to these directions and they will make more sense.Other than that, again, the pots are solid and the seals tight. It is nonferrous metal, so you won't be using induction. Plan accordingly. One last note: the Still Pot (the big one) is 16 inches plus a little in diameter. This is the part that's going to have to be heated, so know that you're going to have to have a heat source that can accommodate a 16 inch round pot *and* be reasonably carefully controlled. You need the temperature to stay in about the 173° range. You are also going to have to have a supply of fresh running water, either by using a bucket and a pump or by connecting it to a sink. So keep those two things in mind.I am excited to get started! As long as no strangers come up ol' Rocky Top, we should be good. Stay tuned...

As someone who makes my own lotion and consumes a ton of lavender essential oil, I love the idea of being able to distill my own lavender EO. I'm doing a lot of reading and watching videos online to learn how to do it. In the meantime, the quality of the materials in this still seems to be top-notch, and the price point is extremely reasonable considering the quality and volume of this still! The thermometer seems accurate, and it looks like all that's needed is a water source, like a clean bucket. I look forward to also reading up on how to distill my own liqueurs, such as pistachio or almond liqueurs!
