This is an amazing soldering iron. I'm pretty new with soldering but I prefer this over my Weller iron. For the price it's one of those if it breaks I'll buy it again type of tools but so far I've had zero issues with it. It will smoke for around 10-15 minutes the first time you plug it in that is normal as it's just plastic burning away off the heating element. My only complaint is the grip isn't anything special and if anything the molding feels a bit sharp but I just used some hockey tape around it and it feels way nicer to use

I bought this to make drain holes in plastic containers that I want to recycle for gardening. Heats up very quickly, makes the job seem effortless (way easier and faster than punching or drilling holes) very sturdy handle, cools down pretty quickly as well. Since I didn’t buy it for soldering I can’t comment on how well it would do, but it gets very very hot so I would imagine it would do a good job for that as well. Excellent tool - so glad I bought it!

I just want to state what a stand up company they are at Delcast! In this day and age sellers as well as consumers can be low grade and ruin it for the rest of us but I can tell you right now to give Delcast and their products a try if you haven't. I thought the soldering iron worked great but due to user error and and just starting out with soldering I had abruptly had an issue with the iron when I wanted to use it. My big peice of advice is since it doesnt have variable temp control, to please unplug it when not in use or prepping a project. Leaving it on or any soldering iron on at high temperature will burn out the coil. Well i had no idea what I had done wrong and figured I would reach out to Delcast or Bobs parts I think it is for advice and see about warrantly. I was dumbfounded and honestly didn't believe them when they said they would replace it at no cost. I recieved the new one today and will be always be appreciative to this company for standing by their word and warranty. It wasn't even a conversation, it was just "tell us where to send it". You all are beautiful! I will definitley purchase more products from them in the future and promote honest companys like them! Thank you!

Nice and cheap and works well for basic soldering needs. A word of caution (the instruction manual does mention this) the thing smokes like crazy when you plug it in for the first time. It smoked so badly I had to stick it out the window. I was concerned it might even catch on fire but it didn't and the smoke stopped after about 5 minutes. Leave your windows open if you don't want your house smelling like burnt plastic.

i bought this to fix my tablet and it worked great (for me).i wasnt looking for anything special, just a basic soldering iron to be used once in a while/ as needed, and this did the trick for me. as stated on the package - it did give off a burning odor/ smoke when used the first time, but it was expected.if you are looking for something super simple, this works. there is no temperature setting or anything on it, but it gets hot enough to do the job done. i would definitely buy another one if needed (since i was just looking for something cheap and effective).excellent product for the price!!!

OK. First off, I need to point out that this is a cheap iron. Not necessarily cheap as in "bad" but inexpensive. I just got it a few days ago and I'm pretty inexperienced in soldering so all I know so far is that it works and it was inexpensive.I have had several of the cheaper Radio Shack soldering irons over the years and I've never been all that fond of them for the money. I'm pretty sure they were always about $10 (maybe slightly more) and that always seemed to me to be a bit too much to pay for what they were.As near as I can tell, this iron is every bit as good as those and maybe slightly better for 6 bucks. The only thing I don't like too much is the way the tip is held in place. It doesn't appear that it makes very good contact with the metal that actually heats it. It's held in by two screws (one on each side) and it just doesn't seem as good as some of the more expensive irons. Of course, that said, it's not a more expensive iron.I bought this cheap iron to practice with. I bought a Weller that cost several times what this did but I really don't want to use it much until I get better at soldering. If I kill this one with my inexperience, 6 bucks isn't going to sting nearly as much.Unfortunately, I'm not sure if the tip can be replaced. Even though it does come out, the tips for the better irons often cost as much this entire iron so it's effectively disposable, I guess.Anyway. When the iron arrived, I noted that it did say on the box that it will smoke a bit on first use. And it did. I remember cheaper irons smoking when they were new in the past so this was nothing I didn't expect. The smoke was a little thicker and more abundant than I expected but it did subside eventually. It takes a little while for it to heat up but is really not bad. Again, for the price, I didn't know what to expect and it seems fine. It probably gets about as hot as it's going to in 3-5 minutes. For short jobs, the handle doesn't seem to get hot. Have not tried longer jobs. The grip and ergonomics is/are pretty good. It's easy to hold and thin enough so it doesn't feel like you're trying to solder with a spatula. It's light. If anything, I kind of wish it had a little more weight to it to offset the weight of the cord.I can't complain for the price. I have already learned more since I bought this than I did in the last 20 years. I didn't buy this to repair things that are irreplaceable. I bought it for practice and that's about the best use for it, I think. If you're good at soldering, you're probably not reading this review. But if you're good at soldering and you know what you're doing, you'd probably be better off spending more. Unless for some reason you just want a disposable low wattage iron.

I hate when people buy a 3 dollar item and then complain it doesn't work like a fifty dollar item.I like to buy what I need and nothing more. I am not a professional. At best I am a DIY tinkerer. I needed a soldering iron to fix a AC/DC adapter, and this worked great. I also fixed a jewelry box hinge, it worked great, which surprised me.Now I did try to unsolder a DC jack out of an old laptop, and while the iron got really hot, it would not melt the old solder. So it has it's limitations, but that's why I bought the 6 dollar soldering iron. And it is worth every penny of the six dollars, and it came WITH SOLDER!!!!!
