Really liked this chuck but I gave up on it after I used it because I had to use a channel lock on it to get it to release the bits. Worked good with the exception of that but it was a deal breaker.

This is a very good chuck. I got it from Amazon as a returned unit and it did have significant cosmetic damage but nothing that compromised it’s working. It has very low runout and grips better than the keyed chuck it replaced.

This keyless chuck has a Jacob’s taper of JT33 which fits the spindle on my 14” Delta drill press. Although this unit is a bit pricey, it fits the spindle perfectly and is relatively light and small (compared to other less pricey models). It holds the drill bits quite well and is fairly easy to turn (to tighten and loosen the bits). There is no substitute for quality and this product epitomizes this well. I highly recommend it as an upgrade to other drill presses with JT33 spindles.

I used to think you needed a keyed chuck to make sure the jaws were tight enough, but this chuck has grip to spare. The way they built it, when loaded it tightens itself but not to the point where it's hard to release. I put a dial indicator on it and its true to within 4/1000ths total runout (so 2/1000ths from center axis which includes the small runout in the spindle). I put a big 1.25" forstner bit into it and drilled some hard maple and it cut right in no issues. It opens and closes very smoothly too. Not the cheapest chuck available but really high quality.

Do not waist your money on other cheaply made chucks.I tried one that claims it is a CNC machined chuck.Either their CNC is 30 years old never maintained machine, or it is a big lie. That chuck ran so much out of concentricity, I could not even start a hole on a piece of metal.

This is not a $100 dollar chuck! I measured a total run out o .009" at the chucks jaws using aground indicating pin. A $24 Harbor Fright chuck is probably just as good (bad). This is not the Jacobs chuck we all know, just the name has survived apparently.I would toss it in the trash if they told me to keep it for free. I expected better from the Jacobsbrand

I expected better from the Jacobs brand, but I guess they're no longer made here. The chuck I received has about .0005" total indicated run-out at the spindle, but .007" at a ground center drill in the chuck jaws. Still debating whether I want to return it.

So I recently picked up a Grizzly G7943 drill press for my wood shop. It was a machine that I put off buying for a long time, because for a wood worker you just dont need a drill press all that often. The problem is when you need a drill press you really need it. So I went ahead and picked up the Grizzly G7943. Its one of Grizzly's most popular drill press and people seem to love it with one exception. There is a lot of run out at either the chuck or arbor that comes with the grizzly drill press. Now I do know from owning a drill press in the past. That no matter how much you pay for a drill press. The chuck is the one place the manufacture skimps on to cut costs. So a lot of times if you are going to have a problem with a new drill press its going to be either at the chuck or arbor. So instead of taking the chance I went ahead and ordered this Jacobs Chuck and Jacobs arbor when I purchased the drill press. Now drill chucks are just something I knew absolutely nothing about other than the fact that they are what holds the drill bit, so i had to do someone research because I like to get the best for my money. I knew that i wanted a chuck that has a total indicated run out of no more than .003 and I did not want to spend an arm and a leg for it. There are really expensive chucks that have TIR of like .0041 but I just dont need anything that precise for woodworking and I did not want to spend the 400-500 bucks they cost. One name that I consistently came across was Jacobs. The company has been around for a long time. They make quality chucks even in the lower price range such as this one. It is a keyless chuck and could hold up to a 1/2 shank drill bit down to a 1/32 which is what I need. I was not able to find anything that listed the manufacture rating for TIR on these chucks but people who had them seem to really like them so I ordered this one along with a jacobs arbor. Got it on my drill press and used a dial caliper on a magnetic base to test the run out at the arbor. The run out at the arbor was just barely .002. Some of the highest quality bits of any type that I have are my Whiteside router bits. So I installed one in the chuck. Tested with the dial caliper on the bit and the needle just barely went past .002. So this bit was perfect for what I needed it. Grabbed a 1/16 drill bit and used it to bore a bunch of holes in a piece of birch. With a drill bit this small. If there is to much run out at the drill bit. That drill bit will snap while drilling through hardwood. Everything worked flawlessly. Tightened around the drill bit very tight so no worries there. I was not able to test a 1/32 bit because I did not have one, but I suspect the same results.Yes there are much cheaper chucks than these Jacobs chucks, but I really didnt want to go any cheaper than this one. This chuck as met all of my needs and expectations of it. So I am ordering another one to use on my lathe.

Wow! I wish I would have replaced my chuck years ago. I put this on a Shopfox drill press which was rated very well, but I found it less than impressive after measuring the run out (0.005"). After replacing the chuck with this Jacobs I am right around 0.001" at full travel. That is pretty awesome! It took a decent drill press and made it an awesome one. I was skeptical on the "keyless" aspect but it seems to grip bits just fine.
