Every part of this valve leaks! It's impossible to tighten enough to the bucket for liquid not to leak out of the bucket. And even if you could, the valve itself leaks like a sieve. Liquid POURS out of the gate...when the gate is CLOSED. Tighten everything until you're scared you're going to strip the threads, and it still leaks. Completely defective product.

For the money, these are decent honey gates. Sealed well initially and functioned for 2 seasons. 3rd season the screw holes bore out a little and it lost its ability to hold honey back around the edges of the closer. Also requires a small washer (provided) to seal tightly which gets in the way when trying to close the gate back. Usually happens at the most inopportune time. So, $10 for 3 decent gates isn't bad if money is tight but if you're looking for long term quality it may be best to spring for the stainless steel versions.

Easy to install on a new bucket. Used a standard hole saw bit and then a dremel to widen the hole just a bit. Finished off by tightening (ever so gently) using a pair of channel locks with tape on the jaws to prevent scratching. Take your time and it will work out fine.
