Much like a lot of the 3DMakerpro scanners and products. Setup is not the most straightforward. Once you do get it set up, the scan quality is good and it does work well. This scanner's larger size does not make it suitable for smaller objects. It is best used on larger items.

Constantly loses tract.• Only the barest minimal documentation is provided for the JM Studio software.• Support is entirely through email & since it comes from China, there are extensive delays of response.• No website with technical support & community forum.• Manufacturer seems intent on their Whale product at expense of MagicSwift Plus.This product comes in a very nice canvas carrying case. Upon opening the case, you will find that the product seems to be made solidly. The turntable consists of a motorized base plus a larger top. Centering the top on the base is easy due to the centered recessed ring on the bottom of the top that fits the base. The turntable plugs directly into the scanner itself.After plugging everything in and installing the software, the first problem arose. I kept getting a pop-up error box telling me “The scanner connect failed!” After closing that box, there was a message in the upper left corner of the software window, “Not connected normally, try to click here to refresh.” I am happy to say that I was successful in my attempt to “click here” but unfortunately, nothing changed. I found someone online who knew the fix – I had to go into the Tools menu and select the scanner. Why this was not included in the Start-Up phamplet is anybody’s guess. I suspect that it is the typical problem: companies are so gungho on their product that documentation is an afterthought so they have a geek who knows the product like the back of their hand jot down a few instructions and call that documentation, rather than hire someone who is totally unfamiliar with the product to write instructions based upon their learning experience. Oh well, welcome to 2023!Back to the scanner. There are no controls on the scanner itself – all control is done via software. If you are using a laptop which can be placed adjacent to the turntable, there is no issue, but if you are using the scanner/turntable combo at a distance from your desktop computer with an extension USB 3.0 cable, this becomes an issue.When I tried a hand-held scan (what JM Stuido calls “Easy Scan”) of the top half of a floppy drive case, the software kept losing track and stopping the scan. I was never able to get a scan complete. When doing a Table Scan (using the turntable with the scanner mounted in the tripod in a stationary position), the documentation states that you do what they call an Initial Scan of the turntable without the object, and that this scan will be complete when the turntable surface turns red in the software. This allows the software to know what is background for removal from the actual scan. This never worked. Scans resulted with the turntable as part of the scanned object.Because there is really no documentation on the various options in the software, it takes quite a bit of playing around to figure out how to adjust settings so that you can get a decent scan. After 2 days, I was able to get a decent scan of the included bust, but could not get much details on that scan. For example, the eyes of the bust scanned simply as indentations in the face. There are a few – very few – videos on operation of the system, and those don’t seem to square up with the actual software.Since there is no website with tech support options or a community forum – you are expected to use Facebook (which I do not use) to get whatever help you can find. Tech Support is therefore through email, which comes from China so there is quite a hefty delay in response. And speaking of China, when you are in JM Studio and go to Help, you get the Chinese version of the sparse manual. No help at all!Not clear to me if 3DMakerPro or Creality is the manufacturer of the unit, or how these two entities are related. The Creality website really has nothing on the MagicSwift Plus scanner, and the 3dMakerPro site is little more than a sales site for the Creality scanner and the 3DMakerPro Whale & MagicSwift Plus scanners. The 3D MakerPro site shunts you off to another site – jimumeta.com – for their "forums" which consists of 3 videos for the MagicSwift Plus, 2 videos for JM Studio, 6 videos for the Whale scanner, and 20+ videos for Creality scanners.From my experience, it seems as if the MagicSwift Plus scanner is an abandoned product. If not, it is definitely not ready for prime-time, so-to-speak. For a product that costs north of $800.00 USD, I expect a LOT more support, a LOT more documentation, better & more tutorials, and at least a decent website.I originally purchased a RevoPoint Mini scanner but decided that it was not really suited for my intended purposes so I returned that for the RevoPoint POP2 scanner. After a few days, I returned that and purchased this MagicSwift Plus scanner, which I thought would be better suited for my intended use. I have since returned the MagicSwift Plus and re-purchased the RevoPoint POP2 unit. The RevoPoint software is far superior, the documentation is ample, and there is a very good tech support and community forum for assistance, and all this for $150 less than the MagicSwift Plus unit.

They are well packed inside the padded case. They look well made, the wires are thick and the ends fit together well.Installation/setup: Hook up the wires to your computer’s high speed usb 3.0 and to the device. The turntable hooks to the device. Your computer should meet the requirements listed on the product page. The computer should give you the sound of connection if done correctly. Ignore the usb thumb drive that is included and go to the website to download the latest software. The software will prompt you if you need to support this product, be sure to say yes by checking that box. You may need to exit your firewall temporarily (be sure to turn it back on) to continue the installation. I recommend you find the video on you-tube that covers the installation of the software and covers the basics step by step for best results.Final thoughts: I have to say I have never run a scanner like this before. I am somewhat familiar with 3d printers and the software that runs them. I own a couple, filament and resin. I also have a laser cutter attachment for one of them. I only mention this because I am familiar with running finicky machinery with software on a computer. I ran the software for this device on one monitor while watching the video on another. The guy in the video goes slowly and you can always back it up to go over it again. I would try a step and pause the video to run the software step by step. I scanned the white bust that is included and got some pretty good results. I ran the scan 5 times and combined them to get a nice scan and I’ll probably try a few more times to get some more detail. There are several videos that cover other aspects of the software and I still need to cover those. The software is pretty powerful and my computer didn’t take a long time doing the calculations. The software is a little slow at times, but it’s pretty easy to use. It is a bit spendy and I'm not sure there aren't cheaper ways to get the same results but I like this and I’m glad I got it.⭐️1 star - I don't recommend it at all, poor quality.⭐️⭐️ 2 stars - I don't recommend it, it has multiple faults, or a very high price.⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 stars - It's passable, It has some faults but the quality is ok for what it is.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 stars - Product quite acceptable, it does what it promises.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars - Product that I totally recommend.
