They seem to work pretty good. I did use a pistol grip grease gun and carefully filled them up until it came out of their breather valves. I wanted them full. I used red high temperature grease. They’re pretty quiet. Time will tell how they last. After mowing with it for a hour or so I put the grease gun back on they held 4-5 more pumps. I read forums indicating that they needed to be full of grease to prevent premature bearing failures. I totally agree.

This spindle assembly looked well made and I was pleased wirh my savings over the Scag part. But after installing the spindle on my Scag TC2, I kept having problems with the pulley slipping down on the shaft and hearing a loud metallic noise while running. Tightening the tapered hub did not help. It turns out that the shaft on this spindle is 20 thousands undersize, and is too small for the tapered hub to properly grip. I hope I can get a replacement, because it is useless now.

A spindle went out on my Scag Turf Tiger. I tried to rebuild it with Scag parts, but I didn’t do it right and the rebuild failed. After spending several hours of effort, and over $100 in parts, I gave up on it. I decided to give one of these after market spindles a try. I received it 2 days after I ordered it, greased it up, put it on the mower deck, and it works great! For half the price of Scag repair parts, I got the whole spindle, and the only assembly required was to put it on the mower deck.Something to be aware of is that it comes with no grease. If you put it on and run it without greasing it, or you don’t add enough grease to fill the grease cavity, it will fail in short order. I suspect that is what happened in some of the cases where the product got a bad review. The spindle has a large grease cavity, so it takes a lot of grease to fill it. Be sure you keep pumping until grease comes out the pressure relief fitting on the back side of the spindle. This is important, since you can’t know for sure that the cavity is full until grease comes out of the pressure relief port. Also, turn the spindle a few times while filling it to help distribute the grease in the bearings.

I am all about using OEM parts on my vehicles and power equipment, but for the money and time - this replacement spindle fit the bill. Mowing season is critical as I have better than four plus acres. I can't afford to be down for even a week during the growing season. To be sure - OEM replacement spindle assemblies were readily available at over $200 a piece plus the two-hour round-trip. I received this replacement the next day and was ready to get back to mowing in less than an hour. This replacement will buy me the time I need to be able to rebuild the OEM spindle, thus giving me a spare to have on hand for way less than the $200 plus dollars and drive-time it was going to cost me. The dimensions were exact to the OEM which is always a concern in keeping that perfect mowing height. I couldn't be happier with it so far...
