I had my initial doubts, as even regular gas tillers seem to be problematic. I was however pleasantly surprised.I have a bunch of raised beds filled mostly with native clay soil, amended with some organic. This year I am topping up with more sand and compost. In the past such operations have been an absolute chore using a shovel and rake. This tiller was able to do the job quite well, and quickly. Each 6x6’ box took about 1 minute to mix quite well. Note that I did go over each box once with the tiller before mixing in, also about a minute each.Battery life was good, it hasn’t run down after all of this mixing yet using dual 4Ah batteries.If I had to give some downsides, it would be that the tilling ‘neatness’ leaves a little to be desired, but true of all tillers. You need to go back and rake things smooth. Next would be that the batteries are not included, you need to be in the desalt system or go get some knockoffs (like I’m using). The battery tradeoff being of course a much better price.I’ve done some limited experimenting tilling virgin ground (grassless packed clay, not loamy at all). It does a reasonable job, but I think you would probably need about quadruple the time as many more passes would be needed to get down to full depth. That said, just the fact that it’s capable is really outstanding. I think YMMV vary for working on sod covered ground, even my 70HP tractor tiller has problems with that.
