About this item

  • Makes it easy for one person to lift and carry sheet goods
  • Reduces strain on back, neck, shoulders & arms
  • Promotes personal safety in multiple ways
  • Increases carrying capability
  • Ruggedly constructed lifetime tool

From the Manufacturer

The Gorilla Gripper is a unique construction tool that allows one person to lift and carry heavy sheet goods (such as plywood, drywall, particleboard, melamine, tempered glass and granite) from the top, with much less strain and greatly reduced risk of injury to the back, neck, shoulders, arms & hands! The gripper works by clamping onto the top of the material, creating a sturdy temporary handle for the person who is carrying them. It allows the user to lift and move them with a straight back, eliminating the requirement of bending over to get under the bottom, thus avoiding the torqued back and the aches and pains that are far too familiar to construction workers and do-it-yourselfers. It's made of aircraft-grade aluminum, very rugged and virtually indestructible. It is continuously self-adjusting from 3/8-inch to 1-1/8-inch. Rubber gripping pads mounted on both plates protect the surfaces of the materials from being damaged or marred. There's just nothing like the Gorilla Gripper...it works!

I don't do reviews often, but this time I thought I should share my experience.A couple of months ago, I decided to install my own synthetic turf in a pretty large area (about 2,800 sf). I did all the work myself and had the turn delivered. The first moving them around was tough and had to get my brother to help. Both our hands and forearms were on fire and sore for days. (I'm actually very athletic and strong, but that didn't seem to help). The project needed final finishing and moving large pieces of heavy turf (15'x 45') was not an easy job. I got this gripper and the job became an absolute no-brainer. I was able to move the heavy turf into exact positions and align it all by myself, quickly and without getting sore. This product was a life saver and I will be using it for future products. I'm sure I'll be able to use it for other things as well.Definitely worth the $50 to get it.

Before I purchased this I read many reviews and Q+A. Many were skeptical about using this for gyprock. Well it will lift half and five eighths inch 4x8 panels no problem. Can't speak to larger sheets. No bending over to lift, just clamp it to the top bend the legs and lift straight up.

This little piece of gear paid for itself the first day I used it. Moving around panels of cement board, drywall and plywood with this sucker was a breeze. Oh how I wish I had one of these 40 years ago when I was a young labourer schlepping 3/4" plywood around a construction site. But what better time to discover this tool than in my geezer years when a day brute force hauling gets you a down day with geezer aches, pains, pulled muscles and a crippling back injury. This is simply a brilliant design. It is a very well-made, high-quality item. Worth. Every. Penny.

Okay, I don't know if I bought this here or on another site. I've had this for a long time now and can at this point give an honest (from my perspective) review. I'm taking the time to do this to warn you to be careful with this. If you lift a heavy panel make sure your foot is angled away from the panel - my foot was broke when this gripper let the panel I was picking up slip down. It slips often for me. I was reminded of this yesterday when I tried to pick up 1/4" sande plywood sheets - one slipped and dropped 3 times (at least I learned my lesson with the broke foot a year or so ago so it didn't get me that time - just jacked the $37 panel a little. Today it slipped again moving a half sheet of MDF. Your mileage may vary. But the two recent experiences between yesterday and today encouraged me to post this and advise others to make sure your foot is angled out from under the panel being lifted just in case. You don't want the experience a broke foot / ankle will give you.

A 3/4" 4x8 sheet of plywood is not only heavy, but bulky. You need another person to move it unless you don't mind dragging it on the ground and ruining the edges and corners. The Gripper makes it extremely easy to move it by yourself. I take mine to the lumber yard when I pick up plywood by myself.Even if you do manage to lift it up with one hand on opposite long edges, you can't see where you're going on one side. With the GG you can.Just be careful when you buy it - there are 3 versions that have different ranges of thicknesses. Find the right one for you.I got the middle size which goes up to a double pack of sheet rock. But it won't grip a 1/4" plywood sheet. But that's easily fixed by using a block of wood with the gripper.Funny thing, though. The web site for the product doesn't mention the 3 different size ranges, but they do exist. It is a very useful product for me and is well-built and easy to use.I highly recommend it, even for occasional use, because when you need it, it's a godsend.

I love this tool. I'm no youngster and I frequently work alone doing cabinetry and home remodeling. The handle is well-padded and very comfortable. The Gorilla Gripper allows one person to move 4' x 8' panels of plywood and drywall around the shop or work site without bending awkwardly. This, in my opinion, significantly reduces the probability of a lower back strain and eases the load on arms and shoulders as well. While the sheet goods don't get any lighter, the unique grip action and lifting angle of this tool makes it possible to get a firm, properly balanced grip on full-sized sheet goods. By grasping the panel at the center of the long edge, you can easily carry a full size sheet by yourself. Moving the gripper a few inches to either side of center causes the panel to hang from the gripper at an angle suitable for going up or down stairs. The rubber padding and nice wide grip distributes the gripping pressure allowing you to carry 4' x 8' drywall panels without damaging or marking the panel. This is a well-made tool suitable for around the house/shop as well as commercial applications. This is worth the price and has already gotten rave reviews from my arms, shoulders and back. Recommended without reservation.

Nice! A good product from the perspective of a 6 foot tall guy. I bought the Gorilla Gripper for moving ply and drywall around the house for an extensive foundation / renovation project. This is a very sensible way to move heavy, awkward and/or delicate sheet material. My one trouble area is stairs. With the Gorilla Gripper centered on the sheet of ply, the material obviously wants to hang in a level orientation, so rather than angling the sheet upward to clear the stair tread, I've got to lift it even higher above shoulder level than what is depicted in the stock photos.Lifting so high is a small strain, inconvenient but do-able outdoors where overhead clearance is unlimited. Inside on a staircase with a low ceiling, this isn't really practical as the upper-back corner of the material will contact the ceiling. (Thank goodness for outside stairs!)Stairs with tight turns are also a no-go; be prepared to either ask for help or resign yourself to the old slide 'n shuffle method. For everything other than stairs the Gorilla Gripper has been very satisfactory to use. It's still a lot of work moving 3/4" sheets around all by my lonesome, but at least it's now practical to do so without having to bring in help. No problem recommending this product.
