It would be nice to have a piece of paper diagram where all the washers and so for fit. If you have had a motor for a long time and you may not have some of those parts on there, you got a lot of extra parts that come in the kit. I don’t think that’s a bad thing, however, it would be helpful to have a diagram of installation.

The impeller spun on the key on first use. I’d installed it just like any other impeller but this one seems to be weak at the inner diameter and just spun around the key. Could have overheated my engine if I hadn’t noticed. Put the old impeller back in and it worked fine. Sorry but have to rate it poorly because it failed at its primary purpose

I purchased 2 of these kits, with one for my Mercury 8hp 2-stroke and the second for my Mercury 15hp 2-stroke. I did the work on the 8hp first and all was going well, until it came time to install the impeller. The impeller was extremely difficult to get to slide down the drive shaft. I made sure the drive shaft was clean and lightly lubricated. I used a pvc pipe to fit over the shaft and drive it down into place. It will need to be cut off to replace. I purchased a micrometer to check the impeller for the 15hp. It was at 12.5mm and the shaft measures 12.5mm (see first photo). I went and purchased a Sierra Impeller (see 3rd photo of package). It slid easily into place on the 15hp shaft. I measured the sierra and the old impleller and both measured 12.7mm. I've exchanged several messages with the vendor, SHAYING, and they say their impeller is supposed to be 12.6mm. SHAYING is sticking with the impeller being 12.6mm.Overall, the rebuild kit worked well and fit as expected. I wanted to get the lower unit back together so I bought the Sierra impeller from a local shop and paid more than if I had time and ordered online. Just be aware that the impeller could be very difficult to install.Next time I tear down the 8hp water pump, I will install a new Sierra 18-3062 impeller.

Kit was purchased as preventitive maintenance for a perfectly running merc 9.9 hp. It was professionally installed then engine warmed up in a test tank for 10 or so minutes. Once on the lake however, Impeller hub broke after 5 minutes at wide open throttle. This Left us stranded in the middle of the lake with a overheated engine that caused catastrophic damage. I didn't buy this pump to save money (it wasn't the cheapest) but it was the only one available to me at the time. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this pump kit.

Everything fit nice as far as the housing and gaskets but the impeller fit loosely sure enough as soon as I ran it in the bucket it wouldn’t pee low and behold it was a stripped impeller. Do yourself a favor buy Mercury oem parts it’ll save you some grief mine stripped on the first start up just shotty craftsmanship.

Replaced the water pump on my '89 15hp mercury and all seemed to go well until i tested the motor in the water that evening. Motor peed well for about 2 mins then quit peeing entirely. Took the lower unit back off and found that the impeller had stripped out. Seemed to fit tight on the shaft but i guess the plastic collar on the inside of the impeller is took weak to hold the key in place to the shaft. You might want to find a kit with a better quality impeller.
