Like many training weapons, this staff is a foam-wrapped tube. If you've ever seen the bars where you attach resistance bands to them, it's like that but lighter and uses independent screws to connect the parts together. It's very simple to setup and start using and feels good to swing around. It's fairly stiff though so don't expect it to bend like a bamboo stick would. I'd be concerned for it breaking at that level of pressure.For training purposes it's perfect utility-wise. What it's really missing is just any type of martial arts print designs on it. Dragon, tiger, logo, a circular ring, anything to make it thematic. That should be there on the stick for the price.

It's a neat little bo staff that can be unscrewed for portability. I wouldn't recommend hitting it against trees or anything really hard repeatedly but does make for a good practice weapon if you are just trying to work on basic techniques. I also cannot speak for how well it would work for sparring. The staff is padded so it's safe in that regard, but I don't know how much shock tension it could absorb before the bolts snap out/get stripped or whatever.

I got this for my son, but my daughter's boyfriend - who is on the US Martial Arts team - got to it first. He disappeared out to the driveway and did not reappear for over half an hour. When I finally found him, my daughter was laughing because he absolutely would not stop talking about how much he loved this bo staff.While it *is a bit long (it's about an inch more than 6 foot - which is probably too long for most people), he says the balance is exceptional. It has a good solid weight in the hand: he said it feels more heavy than in actually is, giving stability without tiring you out as much as a heavier staff might. While most bo staffs are tapered at the ends, this one is the same diameter all the way along its length, which he felt made it easier to handle.While my daughter worried that the screwed together sections might be prone to coming apart, they found that it actually stayed together very well -- it was more of a pain to take apart than they would prefer, but that's preferable to flying apart in use!Enthusiastically approved by my local experts!

Spinning the bo staff is pretty fun to spin and practice , and long staffs are great for use as a stretching aid.I’m using this as a rehabilitation aid for rotator cuff exercises. With two of the sections it is a perfect 4’ that can be used for rotations, and with the three pieces connected together it is the full 6’ length.The staff is relatively light as compared to a solid wood staff. It has a nice protective grip padding that helps prevent injury or damage when practicing spinning the bo staff.It breaks down into three pisces and fits into an easy to carry bag.This is a great aid for stretching, rehab injuries, and practicing the art of the bo staff.Glad to have this versatile bo staff, and recommend it for those looking for similar training aids.
