These leg extensions are helpful if you are not using a landing pad and are trying to go off of tall grass etc. It gives you more ground clearance. Not the added weight will push you into the weight range where it will need to be registered though.

These simple and well made little landing gear extension legs work exactly as represented in the product description. They snap in place easily and stay on firmly. Installing them adds a small amount of additional clearance under the props when the drone is sitting on the ground. This can help keep the props from catching in short grass or other debris, and can help to protect the sensors on the bottom of the drone from getting scratched or dirty. While it is common to launch and land the Flip from your palm (making these legs unneeded), there are some times when you might want to have it take off and/or land from the ground, including: flying it with both hands on a controller, having it land during automatic Return to Home due to signal loss, and if you are unable to launch or land the drone from your palm due to some physical limitation. In those cases, the small amount of ground clearance added by these legs could be useful. But it should be noted that, even with these extensions installed, an inch or two of grass is still long enough to jam the props. So using a landing pad or other portable flat surface is a more effective solution for that issue.I wondered if installing the legs would add wind resistance or decrease flight time per battery due to that wind resistance and increased weight, but I did not notice either problem. The big gotcha for using these legs is that they bring the weight of the drone up over 250 grams, which has major regulatory implications: In the US, without these legs, the FLIP doesn’t need to be registered if you fly it recreationally. Add the legs and you’ll need to register it with the FAA due to its higher weight. In Europe, without these legs, the Flip can be flown without a license. Add the weight of the extension legs, and you’ll need to obtain an A1/A3 license.Given all of the above, I think that very few Flip users will find these extension legs to be a useful addition to their kit.
