These are ideal anyplace you need a non-skid surface on stairs or anywhere. Peeling the film off the back exposes a tacky but non-adhesive side and once placed down on a smooth tile, linoleum, or wooden floor surface, it won't move anywhere. I've got these positioned as a place to step out of the shower, in front of the sink for safety if any water spills, and as a mat in front of the cats' food. These would also be ideal on the inside of an entry door as a non-moving mat to catch any dirt on people's shoes when they step in. The mats can be pulled up and moved, or washed by hand or in the washing machine without removing the tacky adhesive - just let them air dry instead of using the dryer.
