These are good. They're not just a sponge; it seems to be actual peat moss. At any rate, these are growing the seeds I put in. I soaked them and then shoved them into the plastic cages with my machine. In the future, I will put them in the cages and then soak them because some of the sides started breaking off. It's been a few days, and I already have some seeds growing. If the lack of depth on these ends up being an issue, I will edit this review. So far, I am happy with these pods.Edit: I took it down to 3 stars from 5. With the pods being so short, you have to make sure that you never let the water supply get down because the seedlings will dry out very quickly. Also, I like that I only got pods and not all the other stuff that a lot of other products throw in. I don't need tons of plastic cages and paper stickers. I just want the pods, and that's what this product gives you.

I can’t imagine gardening without these. I have seedling trays with a capillary mat, as well as hydroponic trays. These sponges fit perfectly in both. They are dry when they arrive, but rehydrate in a minute or so. Once in the tray, I don’t have to worry about keeping them wet; they absorb better than the tall, skinny ones I was using. There is a hole on top of the sponge where you drop the seed in. You don’t have to cover it up, as the sponge will keep it moist enough. This gives you the opportunity to observe the seed and you will know when it’s sprouting. The seed holes in these sponges are larger as well. I tried four o clock seeds in them (these are somewhat large seeds) and they found the room to send out a root and a shoot. This sponge is a great growing medium; my fastest growing seeds are already sending roots to the outer edges of the sponges – time to transplant! One last thing I really love about these sponges: ease of transportation of seedlings. I have my seed starter trays in the house where it’s warm, but once they’ve sprouted and have a few leaves, I move them to the garage. This time of year it does get cool, so they have a grow light there. Previously I was potting them in the house then taking them to the garage, but more than once the wind blew away my topsoil during the trip. So now I just grab the sponges that I want to put in pots, put them in a deep plastic tray, and transport them that way. The sponge retains plenty of water for the trip and they arrive in perfect condition to pot them in the garage. These sponges have made my seed starting much easier. I highly recommend them!

Update: Seeds began to sprout/germinate one day after setting the pods up (see new pics). Definitely worth considering.-------These grow pods arrived intact in a cardboard box. The one item that I found interesting is that there were no instructions included in the box or printed on the box. It would be nice if an instruction card could be included in the packaging (similar to the instructions on the product page). I have soaked two sets of pods for two different sets of seeds (zinnias). Will update my review if the seeds germinate/grow. (Docking one star for lack of instructions.)

I'm thrilled to have received my 50-pack of hydroponic pods today! I've been eager to start my hydroponic garden and these pods are exactly what I needed. The price was great, and I can't wait to get started using them.I'm particularly excited about the versatility of these pods. They're compatible with a variety of hydroponic systems, including Click and Grow and Aerogarden. This means I can use them to grow a wide range of plants, from herbs to vegetables.I'm also impressed with the quality of the pods. They're made from a durable material that should last for many uses. I'm confident that they will provide a healthy and supportive environment for my plants to thrive.I'll be sure to update this review once I've had a chance to use the pods for a while. In the meantime, I'm very optimistic that they will help me grow a successful and bountiful hydroponic garden.

These are good little sponges. They grow to a good size and fit well in most set ups. They're a nice germination place for your seeds and they're loose enough that the roots will grow easily. I've had others that are too dense.

Our youngest son is really into gardening, so we got these for him to plant. I really dig how they're deep, unlike the typical little discs we get for him. Soak them, they swell, pot it, you're done. He's already got a whole slew of these seeded and in pots. Really pleased.
