The drum units are the parts of the laser printer that fuse the toner onto the paper. If you get poor quality prints after swapping in a new toner cartridge, you likely need a new drum kit. Some printers have a drum and toner all in one, but some- like my particular Lexmark- they are separate parts. After a lot of use, my printer was getting some errant lines and some strange occasional light splotches in my prints. This drum solved those issues- and pretty much will solve any print quality issue that isn't related to the toner cartridge- as the drum is the part that makes it all work. This drum fit perfectly and restored the image quality to my well-used Lexmark printer. The question usually is- how often do I replace the drum, since Lexmark doesn't make toner/drum combination designs like HP does? I started to notice the degradation in my prints about 2/3 of the way through the second toner cartridge, which was a high-yield version. This would equate to probably 3 years of daily small office use if not printing constant invoices etc every day. For home use, this would likely mean 5+ years!
