It'll take a long time for me to use these enough to determine how well the steel holds up but I tested these out on a 2 cubic foot basalt boulder and they worked perfectly. I used a 3lb sledge to drive the wedges and experienced no mushrooming of the wedge heads. I only split one stone, however, using 5 holes to make sure they will work for an upcoming project. I've never used a set that had O-rings and I have mixed feelings about their usefulness or longevity but they work just the same without them. These are a pretty decent set, at a good price and I would certainly recommend them, at the very least, for the occassional user like myself.
