This product is advertised as 1/4" in diameter, which is exactly the size I needed. When I got it and installed it in the lamp, the wick was extremely loose. So, I measured the opening in the lamp to make sure I had not made a mistake during the original measurement. My digital calipers still showed 0.250". I measured the wick and it was 0.188" or 3/16" of an inch. Thinking the wick might swell when it soaked up the lamp oil, I proceeded to fill the lamp. The wick did not swell to fit. I will see if this vendor has a 5/16" option. Beware.

I think I have enough wick to last me the rest of my life! The material burns well in my olive oil lamp. No smoke. I have the lamp lit for about an hour a day during my prayer time, and so far after using this wick for about a month, I've only burned about 1/2" of the wick. I'd say that the diameter maybe a little larger than 1/4", so it was initially difficult to insert into my lamp, but ended up working just fine.

I ordered 1/4" thinking somehow that it would be 1/4", but the wick measures 1/8. If it's supposed to expand to 1/4 after being wet then it seems they should say so - 1/8 expands to 1/4 after oil is applied. Too inexpensive to go through the hassle to return.
