I needed to drive a mechanism I’d built from a stepper motor, which had a 5mm drive shaft. These flanged couplings from Supernine looked suitable for my needs. I would have preferred these to be black or possibly silver in color, but the 5mm version was only available in red, so that’s what I ordered.The product comprised two of these couplings packed in a transparent plastic flip-top box. Eight grub screws to mount the couplings were also provided. Each coupling took two grub screws to mount it, so I had four spare – which is handy as they look easy to lose. The couplings were much bigger than I expected, although the dimensions were provided in the Amazon listing. These will be capable of delivering the full torque from even more powerful or geared stepper motors than the 0.4 Nm NEMA17 stepper motors I was planning to use. These couplings fitted smoothly onto the 5mm shafts of my stepper motors and each was well secured with two grub screws. There are four 3mm holes on each flange for attaching a plate, crank or some other mechanism.The price seemed to be reasonable at less than $8 for two quality couplings. It’s a shame about the color choice.
