Hurricane Series II Aluminum Core CBN Grinding Wheels are state of the art in bench grinding! Ideal for sharpening wood turning tools as well as wood working tools that contain High Speed Steel, Hurricane CBN Grinding Wheels fit most bench grinders; 1800 RPM (Preferred) or 3600 RPM. Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) is a man-made crystalline material which is one of the hardest in the world. It ranks just slightly below Diamond on the hardness scale, meaning it will sharpen your wood turning tools with ease!
Each Hurricane CBN Wheel undergoes a process which uses electroplating to attach CBN crystals on to a precision aluminum grinding wheel substrate. The result? High quality grinding wheels that will greatly outperform common stone wheels!
While Hurricane CBN Grinding Wheels were created with the woodturner in mind, they have a wide range of applications beyond wood turning! The durability of our CBN Wheels means they can be used for grinding most tools made from High Speed Steel, hardened steel or superalloy materials as well.

While this is by far the easiest way I have found to convert a 6” bench grinder to diamond or CBN wheels, I’m pretty disappointed with how the abrasive has held up. It is a very thin coating of CBN and although it hasn’t worn through or anything, I can no longer tell the difference between the 80 and 180 grit wheels. I have used the 80 grit much more but I have only had them for a month and only used them on the weekends. I would suggest getting a 60 grit silicon carbide wheel for the course work and one of these to finish. Now I’m thinking about making adapters to fit real Tool & Cutter grinder wheels. That way the flat side surface will be much more useable too.

This wheel works great. I can touch up my turning tools in a snap. I just have to get used to the ringing sound and the lack of sparks when I grind.

Amazing difference between this and the friable stone wheels I have used. I primarily turn wood, and this leaves an excellent edge on my tools. As soon as I can, I will be purchasing the 180 grit wheel, but being a disabled vet on low income means that will be awhile. Unless, of course, the company would like to donate one to a veteran, which I would happily accept! So far, the best grinding wheel, bar none, I have ever used.

I purchased 2 of the wheels a 180 grit and an 80 grit. This 80 grit wheel has a vibration to it and it doesn't appear to have been balanced. It does however live up to the claims of How well CBN wheels sharpen. I would've replaced it but I purchased the last 80 grit wheel on Amazon and decided to live with the vibration which is Far less then a conventional wheel.
