I ordered this article after I bought another one (bigger) from what appeared to be the same manufacturer. What a contrast . . . This 6" compass may as well be made by the Flintstones.Edges have burrs (OK, I filed those), joint slot and knife are not symmetrically cut (but fit nevertheless), very crude machining (in 21st century you'd expect better even from a simple machine tools); because of all this the legs need great force to open and close somewhere in the middle of the range, etc.The hole for the retaining screw is NOT square to the leg's plane. How that could happen is beyond me. I would have to make a special effort to drill and tap it like this in my shop.After half an hour finessing with it I finally got me a functional tool, so I am not complaining in the end.Good news - it is a sturdy design with bulky elements and tight assembly.So once I made it work I hope it will last a lifetime despite all apparent defects.
