Although the description states it’s made for replacing pool cue tips, you actually need more equipment than this tool provides in order to do the job. So don’t expect to be ready to replace tips if this is all you have. For instance, you really need a scissors tool to cleanly cut off the old tip. (I'm re-editing this review because I believed it was an 8-in-1 tool but now that I look again, it states that it is a 6-in-1 tool.)
The features of this tool:1) Dime tip shaper - a concave grinding surface with the curvature of a dime.2) Tip pricker - make tiny holes in your tip to help hold chalk.3) Curved grinding surface - allow you to shape your cue by grinding down the edges, but you need to know what you’re doing since unlike some other shaping tools, the curvature is neither a dime nor a nickel curvature.4) Long flat grinding surface - I think you use this by grinding the bottom of your new tip to ensure its surface is flat and roughened slightly to accept the adhesive.5) A long blade with several different slots - the product photo shows it “shearing” the top as well as trimming (it says “cutting”) the tip side if it’s wider than your ferrule. So I guess you would first remove remaining residue with this.6) A flat grinding surface in a circular opening (next to the dime shaper) - I believe this is supposed to be used only after you remove the old tip and the majority of the old tip crap, with the blade (#5). After that you would use this to remove the last bit of old residue as well as ensuring a nice flat surface before applying the new tip. Who know, maybe it can even be used as a tapper (I wouldn’t).What this tool lacks:1) There isn’t a circular slot for you to compress and burnish the edge of a cue tip after you trim its edge which would be nice.2) There’s no specific spot to press the tip edge after you apply the adhesive and glue the tip to the ferrule, although I guess you can use the flat grinding surface (#6 above) to apply some pressure, so maybe that’s #7.Since there is no instruction sheet explaining how to make use of all the features of this tool, you’re kind of on your own. The closest thing to any instructions is the listing of functions on the box (which, interestingly enough, actually lists 7, not 6 (See photo of box):1) Tip corrector2) Radius Shaper;3) Tip separation knife4) Arc Sandpaper5) Flat sandpaper6) Needle to scuf [sic]7) Ferrule flat repair. There are no replacement blades included, so once this blade begins to lose its edge, you lose out on several of the features necessary if you’re planning on replacing tips.I thought the fact that it was made of ABS rather than an aluminum block would be a negative but it felt comfortable to handle. However, I would definitely not simply put this in my pocket before I to the nearest billiard hall to shoot some pool! The first time you reach into your pocket you’ll either stab your finger with the tip pricker; slice it on the blade; or scrape your skin away from one of the several grinding surfaces, I’ll tell you what.Overall, I found the long curved surface handy to shave some of the tip off, eyeballing the dome radius that I like, and then used the dime radius shaping part to finish it off. The tip pricker was okay but I have other prickers felt sharper. Plus, if I were to actually try replacing a tip, I’d have to buy a lot of other supplies, in which case I’d probably spend a bit more money and look for a different product that is a more complete kit, i.e. one with more radius shaping choices; a way to press the tip onto the ferrule, a good pair of trimming scissors, and one that came with spare blades for both the scissors and the multi-tool.

Unlike some earlier reviewers, I don't see any emphasis in the description upon using this tool to replace cue tips. Though it has some flat surfaces that would be useful for that purpose, as well a blade that can be used to scrape across the top of a ferrule, I see this mainly as a tool to shape cue tips. It is well suited for that, and at $8 the price is very reasonable.Tip shaping can easily be overdone with tools such as this, so I'm hesitant to donate it to a senior center where I have donated some cues. People can be destructive.

Handy little tool and does what its supposed to. I did some tinkering with it, and used it to help me adjust a tip on one of my cues, but have not extensively tested it yet. I will update my review if any issues.

The only function that I found a use for is the bowl-like shaping abrasive. Eventually a much used tip is going to compress, harden, flatten and perhaps pick up a few gouges which can make the striking surface unpredictable. It's nice to be be able to re-establish the proper flattened dome shape. However, this is a destructive process. It removes material and makes your tip smaller. Look at the "before" and "after" repair photos. They've removed about 80% of the tip material (typically pigskin backed by plastic/resin)!Maybe I'm just lazy but if a tip needs anything more than a quick shaping, I'll just replace it.
