The silicone material in the body is thick and feels durable. How strong is the magnet? Solid hold for 40 oz of cable: 10 feet of (coiled up) HDMI cable supported only by the clip. I estimate that it could have supported significantly more weight. How thin a cable (added 2025-04-21)? Using a USB2 to micro-USB cable. The gap between the two sides is only slightly smaller than the cable's diameter. The cable doesn't fall out but it takes very little for the cable to escape. For example, pulling the cable through it. Or having it hanging on a horizontal cable. My solutions:- Loop the cable around and make a second pass through the holder. It fits snugly without pushing the sides out.- Where I want to have the cable out of the way yet be able to pull through enough length to reach a device without disturbing the holder that is mounted on a vertical surface. I found that often that pull the holder off the surface, with it sliding down the cable to a hard-to-reach location. Simple solution: Put a *very loose* overhand knot in the cable where you want the sliding to stop without inhibiting being able to pull cable through to reach a device. How thick a cable? Using a 3-wire power cable- 18 AWG SVT: Fit nicely and didn't slip, although with a modest tug the clip would move along the cable, but with definite resistance.- 16 AWG SJT: I could barely squeeze it into the slot, with the sides returning most of the way to their "resting" positions and having a very firm grip on the wire.FYI:18 AWG is rated for up to 7 amps and what is typical for a desktop computer display in the 28-inch range.16 AWG is rated for up to 10 amps and what is typical for a desktop computer with expansion slots, up to 6 disks (hard drives or SSDs), and a powerful graphics card. One of my displays had a power cord with a slightly greater diameter than the 18 AWG one above and the sides didn't quite return to the "resting" position.Packaging: Relevant mostly if you are giving this as a gift or want spares in your "supply cabinet". They are packed in a one-layer 2x3 array in a cardboard box with no wasted space.-- Douglas B. Moran

Perfect for my shelving with a metal frame where all my devices go to charge. I wanted a cable holder that had a magnetic base (not a sticky base with a magnetic clippy part for the cable). These are exactly what I wanted - I have them in black stuck on a black metal support cross-beam for a shelf and they're invisible except for the cords tucked through them. Very happy customer!
