I am working on flattening our backyard which means installing some decking. I’ve watched a lot of YouTube videos on various materials and methods which always looks so easy when those folks are doing it, but when I try it is usually more miss than hit at the start. I have 2 distinct areas to install decking, and one of those areas will wind up with a pergola or roof-like structure so I’m installing a lumber deck. My ability to eyeball the spacing and get it consistent is zero, so having these wonderful spacing tools is making my deck look much more professionally installed. They take the guess work out and are so durable and functional and easy to use. I just lay down the next board snug up against the one I just installed, slide a spacer in between the boards every few feet and then get busy with the deck screws!Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is our deck, but I am far more productive with these spacers that are so well designed and hand friendly - big enough to grasp easily but small enough to carry around in a pouch on my tool belt. I’m a big fan!

Excellent for spacing deck boards

We botched our DIY deck about 10 years ago by “eyeballing” the spacing of the deck boards. Long story short, they were WAY too close together, not allowing for proper drainage and the beautiful cedar ended up rotting very quickly. This time around, this tool is absolutely a lifesaver. Essential! I will never build a deck without these again. Great value, you get a lot of them, they are ergonomically friendly the way the finger holes are designed, and very functional. Easy to use, very durable well made plastic and they work great! The color is really pretty too, not that that makes a difference, but they were fun to use because of the vibrant color. Perfect spacing, perfect drainage. I wish we could’ve ordered these the last time around! I would absolutely recommend these! Only tip is just make sure you are using the correct spacing with each tool because there are 4 choices.

At first I thought I would just make my own shims; but, my wife saw these. These are very simple to use. They are durable and work as advertised. I would highly recommend them for your deck spacing measurement.

These deck spacer guides work very well. They are clearly labeled and easy to use just slide them in and they create the correct space in your boards. It would be nice if the different sizes were different colors just to make it easier to see at a glance and not have to read the size every time I space a board. It’s a pretty simple fix with some paint and I might paint it. Overall, though these do a good job.
