I’ve been a pen turner for some years now and made several thousand units, some of which are sold here in the Amazon Handmade store. So, I have a considerable amount of experience with this type of hardware. The kit is a nice beginner set and includes 6 Letter Openers and 6 Slimline pen kits, each containing 3 different finishes: gold, chrome, and gunmetal. The listing does include some valuable information but should be printed and supplied with the kit, such as the tube diameter and bit size required for pre-drilling the blank to be turned. The listing says tubes are of 7mm diameter, so a 7mm bit should suffice. The tubes supplied fit snugly on standard US 1/4in mandrels for turning. However, there are no bushings supplied to aid in turning down the blank to the correct diameter for the hardware. The letter opener blanks should be mated to the 11mm hardware, and the pens are of 8.4, 8.5, and 8.6mm diameters to be matched. The hardware is very nicely finished, and the pens use what seems to be a Cross type of refill. I think a little instruction booklet should be included to help any beginner getting this gift. Overall, a decent 12-unit kit and project with a decent price.
