These are very large end mills with 3/4" shanks. The flutes are very deep (especially on the larger sizes.) There's no problem with chip clearing with this much depth especially when not taking advantage of the deep flutes (and I just don't have the horse power to hog off that much metal for each pass.) The surface finish left by these end mills was interesting. For normal cuts, the surface left behind was very rough and in some cases it looked as if the cutter was tearing the metal (aluminum and mild steel). But if I took a very skinny (5 thousandths) climb-milling finishing pass, the surface finish looked nice. The big disappointment for me was how many chips there were in the cutting edges before the cutters were even removed from their case for the first time. (See photos for a couple of examples -- there were many more.) This indicates to me they were not handled well before being packaged and it raises concerns about the heat treating. The cutters come in a nice box that will protect them well when not in use (too bad that they were damaged before being placed in the box.) Interestingly, the box that my end mills came in had a ding in it -- despite no evidence of any damage in the external packaging. I really couldn't care less about the ding (it doesn't affect the functionality of the box) but the lack of any evidence of damage during shipping suggests that the ding was present before being shipped and that quality control is less than what it should be for a $200+ product.

I am pleased with these end mills. They come safely packaged in a fitted, padded aluminum case which keeps them protected and holds them well. They are nice and sharp and cut aluminum like a hot knife going through butter.I use oil when cutting and I feel these are holding there edges well. For the price I am pleased and I would buy this set again.5 STARS
