What is UV (ultraviolet) light?

I usually purchase the more expensive B&W filters for use with high grade Olympus glass, just as I will for my recently purchased new lens, but I saw this filter and figured I may as well try it. Works just fine as a temporary filter. Lets see if this inexpensive filter actually protects the lens over the next few months.

The filter is great, but it came with a lens cap keeper that doesn't stay stuck to the lens cap. 5 stars for the filter, 0 for the cap keeper. It keeps falling off!
