I wasn't sure what to expect from this filter. Some soft-focus filters I've used might as well have just been a lens with haze on the elements, but this one manages to avoid that look and make subtle changes that I find attractive.I got the 82mm version since that lets me use it on a Kowa 6x6, and with 77mm-82mm rings with my Nikon gear, and even on a 4x5.The build quality is better than average, and while you will not mistake this for a filter with a brass ring it was relatively smooth to install and remove. Thread length is more than I've come to expect, which I appreciated. You also get a nice storage case that keeps the filter from rattling around inside while it keeps dust away.I tried this out A/B on a 85mm f/1.4G Nikkor lens and found that it does not have a huge effect on the portion of your subject that is in focus, while it more noticeably softened even the excellent bokeh of the 1.4G. I like the effect, it's pleasant without seeming as if you have reduced the resolution of the image. I'll definitely keep using this for some portraits or other images that are improved by the character of the effect.I think it's priced pretty well for a filter of this size and type. Sure, you could probably get close to this effect in post, but it's nice to not have to do that when shooting film. Overall, recommended.
