I was surprised at the magnification of this monocular. It is very handy for observing a subject. The size is about 1-3/8 inch diameter by 6-1/2 inches in length with both caps on.The front lens cap is a snap-on plastic cap with squeeze tabs for removal. It stays on securely. However, when you take it off, the cap is on its own. It doesn't dangle from the monocular. Easily lost. There are no markings so I doubt if a replacement can be found. The rear eye-piece cap is really rubber slip-on cover with a tie-down loop. The opening of the loop is 1/4th inch by 1/2 inch. I guess this is to keep from losing the rear eye-piece cap as this cap simply slips on and off and sits fairly snuggly over the eye piece. However, It is not very secure at all. There is no way I would trust the loop to hold the weight of the entire monocular secured to my gear. It would just slip out of the rear eye-piece cover.Toward the front, there is a focus ring to adjust for near or far objects. The travel of this ring is from the 10 o-clock position to noon. This limited travel means fast adjustments but not finite. At the back, the rim of the eye piece itself is rubberized. It feels good against one's skin.As for viewing, I was able to make out some letters on my neighbor's car license plate over a hundred yards away. For closeness, it would focus on an object roughly 6 feet away. Anything closer was a blur.Overall, very well built. I just wish the rear lens cap screwed or snapped on so that one could secure the monocular to one's gear and not just the rear cap (hence, the 4 stars instead of 5). Ideally, I would want to drape this around my neck with a lanyard. As it is configured, this is not possible. The rear cap just won't hold the monocular. It WILL fall.It does come in a black velvety bag that has synch ties that you pull to secure. You can tie that to your gear, but I doubt this fabric will survive a rough hike. Still, it's something. But the manufacturer's main purpose was for birding. You will certainly see the birds quite well.

I got these to watch the birds that come to the feeder out my front window. I LOVE how clear the image is and how easy these are to use. They are just a fixed magnification, (7X) but it is perfect for helping me identify the birds. It is easy to find them in the viewer and keep the bird in the field of view, even when they flutter around. I have another monocular, but it is 10-25 power and it is often hard to figure out where I am looking at to know which way I need to move to find the bird I am looking at, even at the lowest 10X power so I think I like this 7X magnification.
