The pot came with a dent in the corner about the size of a half dollar coin. Punched it out with a hammer instead of returning the item. Looks like new. Maybe it got dented along the way. Everything else was in good shape.

This is a great kettle at a great price, but I ran into several issues to taint the purchase: 1) it was never disclosed that assembly was required. The buyer must install the valve AND thermometer. And they require larger tools than most people possess; 2) one of the nuts to assemble the thermostat was faulty or stripped. The seller did a great job getting me a new nut and o-ring in a timely fashion but what a pain; 3) there was a useless sticker on the false bottom (saying it should be washed - duh!!) that would not come off with soaking or scraping. I finally had to use acetone to remove what was left. After dealing with all these hassles I did my 1st brew with this setup and it worked great.

The false bottom doesn't fully seat in the bottom of the brew kettle. It lays up on the backing nut for the ball valve. This causes grain to get through and clog up the ball valve. This really ruins it for me. Maybe its a defect. Would not recommend.

I purchased this brew pot for its capacity and convenience in brewing 5 gallon batches of beer on a fairly regular basis. In general, I am quite happy with it after a few batches. The construction of the pot itself is of high quality with thick metal walls, well positioned and high quality handles and a well-fitting lid. With some modifications described below, it really helps the brewing process move efficiently and with very minimal opportunity for contamination.Below is a detailed description of pro's and con's:PRO'S1) Thermometer confirmed accurate against 2 separate other instruments. Well positioned into the center of a 2.5-3 gallon boil.2) High quality, thick bottom and walls to the pot; well fitting lid.3) High positioned handles - keeps the handles from the heat and allows pot to be moved usually without needing pot-holders.CON'S (all minor)1) Leaky valve - the 1/2" ball valve leaks, and as another reviewer commented, will need food grade sealant to fix.2) The false bottom, while a good idea and functional (I used it in my first batch and it caught most residual grain and hops in the wort), it does diminish your heating efficiency and is a bit awkward to work with. At the recommendation of another reviewer, I used a bazooka filter instead (see note at bottom)3) The valve needs a hose barb to be truly functional; without adding this piece (not included) and some PE tubing, transferring the wort is clumsy and introduces a good deal of air into the wortNOTE: The threaded connector that connects the valve to the nut on the inside of the pot is short for connecting a bazooka filter in lieu of using the false bottom (see #2). Need to replace this piece if you want to use the bazooka filter. I also recommend adding some plumbers tape to all connections for additional seal (and change it regularly during cleaning).

I expected this kettle to be heavier guage stainless steel-----not sure this one is any better than others I have seen for a lot less money.

This will last through a lifetime of 5 gal batches. The pot is thick and heavy stainless steel. All parts are of the highest quality. Haven't used the false bottom yet; got it so I can do all-grain brews in the future. Highly recommended for the up and coming home brewer!

I have made 3 batches so far, using this as a mash tun.It works well, retains heat moderately well, no major issues other than the false bottom, which caused a massive drop in efficiency for me. After switching it out for a Bazooka screen, my efficiency was back up to normal. The weld-less fittings, and accessories other than the false bottom, were of adequate or even better quality than what are pictured in the current Amazon product photo.

this is a great buy. It was much less than the local brewing supply store and of equal High quality. Very sturdy and the false bottom fits well. I have cooked up three 5 gallon batches with no problems at all.
