A few months ago I noticed that the toilet in the master bathroom of my house was making a squeak as the water in the tank was almost up to the fill line. It got noticeably louder and louder until I decided to change the fill valve. It was an easy enough job and I thought nothing of it until another toilet in the house started to make the same noise. I was getting ready to change the fill valve again when I realized that I couldn't shut the water to the toilet off because the lock off valve had gone bad. I couldn't tackle that problem (I need special tools) so I started wondering if I could change the washer in the fill valve. I did a search on YouTube and found that I was in luck. I have Fluidmaster 400 fill valves and the washer in them is super easy to change. I know what you are thinking: But these cost the same as the entire fill valve does. That is true, however, hear me out. This price gets you two washers. Each washer takes seconds to change with no tools necessary and you really don't even need to turn the water off to do the job. And of course this serves two fill valves. For me, that is a win-win situation. It is a bit pricey, but for the convenience and the lack of trash to dispose of when I'm done, I think this is a good investment.
