I searched for videos of replacing this junction. None of them pointed out the fact there was a notch in the corresponding shaft, and that removal of the older unit required total removal of the bolt...the other point to remember is you're going to want to test fit ( without the bolt) the joint as it may need to be spread apart to fit. This should save you time and frustration especially with the angle you have to contort to get to this part....Once this was figured out...it worked.

So I've gotta be honest with you, no one looks forward to needing a steering linkage or replacing it, this wasn't a very exciting purchase. That said it fits, it's sturdy, and the movement is smooth; none of that the things could be said for my 15 year old escape. 5/5

This worked perfectly. Easy to install and corrected the problem on my truck.

First of all, there should be something to identify which side of the coupler, goes on top, because it only fits one way. The side with the bolt going through part of the opening, has to go on top. Secondly, once you get the bolts Simi-tight, there is no room for the socket, to evenly fit around the head of the bolt, to snug it down. I had to use a grinder, to slightly take off the edge of the coupler, next to the bolt head, in order for a socket to fit snug.

This isn't a good fit. It goes on just fine on the steering box . But the steering rod won't fit in the hole . Had to go get one from O'Reilly's auto parts.

A good friend has an '08 Escape I've been helping sort out. When she turned her steering wheel she was getting a clunking noise. It was this coupler, the lower one, it simply had worn out, there was a lot of slop in it.Replacing this part is more awkward than difficult There are a couple of good YouTube videos on the procedure, "2008 Ford Escape steering making a clunky noise, popping noise, steering feels weird driving" is one. This part appears to be the equivalent of the OEM part in terms of materials and construction and is available at a fraction of the price of the factory part. It even comes with replacement bolts, the factory part does not. It is working fine so far.
