I finally got the chance to use this over the weekend so I thought I'd go big. I did bananas one day and strawberries the next. This is my first time using a dehydrator so I did look at several different ways to do both fruits and followed what most people said to do. However, the downside with this unit is the temperatures are preset in. It would be nice if you could just increase the temperature by increments of 5 degrees, but because it does both C and F, I understand why that would be difficult. Either way, it worked very well and it is surprisingly quiet. A few tips from my experience this weekend though, I put down parchment paper on each tray for the bananas, and while I rotated the trays, as many websites said to do, I probably should have also flipped the banana chips about half way through. I didn't use parchment paper for the strawberries though, and had to work more to get them off the trays. It wasn't too difficult because the wires of the trays are so thin, but bits of strawberry did stick to the wires and border of the trays, and getting the strawberry chips off the wires did cause some of the chips to break. Not a huge deal, but if you're looking to get that part done quick and easy, I'd use parchment paper and flip the chips half way through. Oh, and the smell... You'd better like the scent of what you're dehydrating because the smell will fill quite a big space. Not a problem when doing nice smelling fruits like bananas or strawberries, but I can imagine what it would be like when trying to do jerky.

This is a great dehydrator if you are just giving it a try, or don't have a lot of room. It's about the size of a toaster oven (a little smaller than a microwave for the young'uns). It isn't loud, and is very easy to use. It doesn't hold a whole bunch, but this isn't an industrial dehydrator. It's well-built and sturdy, with plenty of racks so you can load some while others are in use. The thing I liked the best about it was that the front door has a latch--not just a seal like the fridge, but something more like the latch on a guitar case. I ran it for about 10 hours and there was no noticeable heat outside it, but the items inside were dehydrated. Really a pretty neat little device.
