Instruction:
1. Mount the hook on to the unit
2. Mount the shop air adapter to the unit
3.Plug the power cord into the socket
4. Screw on the smokehose to the unit
5.Fill ( mineral oil based ) smoke juice into the unit from the refill port on the top
6. Connect shop air supply
7. Connect 12V vehicle power supply then the unit will generate smoke
8. Turn the red handle anti-clockwise to adjust the flow rate to a proper level

I bought this to find a "major" evap leak (P0455 code). I hauled the compressor out, hooked it all up, and found the leak in about 30 seconds. Some people have complained about the smoke smell for similar products, but this didn't come with oil, so I just used baby oil, and it smelled fine.My brother thought he heard a leak in my exhaust system, so I hooked this up to the tail pipe (you need a $13 adapter for that). In about 3 minutes, it showed two holes in the muffler.Excellent product. Simple, and it works.

After reading the other reviews I adjusted my compressor air all the way down. Worked like a charm, found my leak in under 5 minutes. Absolute bargain. Paid for itself in the first use.

Helped find an evap leak in my son's jeep. Had been looking/replacing hoses for weeks to clear a CEL. After 10 min with this machine, we easily found the leak and fixed it. No more CEL. Used plain baby oil to generate smoke.

This is an actual review of the AA009 Smoke Machine Leak Detector after using it on various automobiles in my shop. Initially, I examined and researched nearly every smoke machine for sale on Amazon and elsewhere to find the best quality machine and value for the price without paying $500-1000 for a heating element in a coffee can.The smoke machine is well constructed and made with decent materials, except for a cheap 1/4" ball valve that controls smoke output. The seller immediately replaced the valve at my request. I got it in two days. You can easily replace the valve with something better although seller states that the valve will now be upgraded.If you want one of the most useful pieces of automotive diagnostic test equipment there is for finding vacuum leaks on intake manifolds, exhaust and cats, evap gas systems, seals, grommets, valves, vac reservoirs, hoses, climate controls, etc., you need a smoke machine. I should have bought one of these thirty years ago! What an awesome tool.At $75 for a fairly well-made smoke machine that looks like it will last and puts out lots of smoke, I recommend this unit and give it five stars. You can pay as much as you want for one, but this unit works great, saved me hours of time, and now all of my vehicles are fine-tuned and running like tops. This was a really good investment and every mechanic should have one, seriously.

The tool is easy to use and very well built. It does not come with the oil but a baby oil is so cheap at Walmart. It helped me with finding a small evap leak and saved me money in diagnostic fees at a local shop/dealer. This tool pays for itself after few uses.

Used it to detect exhaust system leak. Well leaks , found leaks i didn't even suspect. Really easy to use . I had a small 12 volt utility battery that i used instead of using the car battery, and i purchased the larger cone adapter that fits exhaust pipes. I connected to my air shop air compressor . The unit has a pressure regulator built in to reduce the air pressure but it is more than sufficient to do the job and the original baby oil product recommended was easy and safe to use as a smoke agent. The alligator clips for the battery were a little cheapish but any more you get that with pretty well everything you buy but they are sufficient enough to do the job

I added mineral oil and pluged it in. it took maybe a couple minutes to heat up and put out plenty of smoke. The reason for the 4 stars is because after this unit heats up it melted the plastic fill cap and all the smoke came out of the fill area. . I removed the melted glob and used an 1/8 metal pipe plug and continued on my way. I diagnosed the evap problem and now the check engine light stays off. Very nicely made though. good idea and just as good as a snapon smoker that costs mega bucks.
