It surely does lower the amp consumption. I bought it as I have a portable generator and this soft start lowered the amp consumption (in rush) at start.

Very straightforward installation. The ramp is very short and not what I was expecting the unit to achieve. I was more concerned with the reverse protection so I'll live with what I have but I'm underwhelmed at best.
