The spoon was a tight fit so I filed the tip down a little bit and it's much better. You can use a nail file (emory board) to file the tip if you need to. No big deal. It's hardwood, nicely stained/varnished, and looks nice on the kitchen counter. I keep French salt in both compartments; rough salt on one side and fine-grain on the other.

I love this thing, it’s so handy to keep next to the stove. I don’t find myself using the spoon very often, as I prefer to pinch out the salt. It holds a fairly large amount so I’m not constantly refilling it. Overall, I love it! I can open it with my elbow if I have my hands dirty, which is so convenient! The swivel mechanism has held up well. Great value for the money!
