Needed more rods and knobs, base is eh, ground well but the face just rattles unless mag on. Box came a bit soggy from the oil

I first bough one of the magnetic bases with a lower pull off value and it was totally unsatisfactory. I was using it to measure the end play between the front disc brake hub and the spindle on my 1972 Volkswagen Super Beetle. This is not a North American car but a German market car, so it came with front disc brakes from the factory. Adjusting the end play is the way to set the bearing free play. The magnetic base was placed on the disc or the circular hub. I needed a much stronger magnetic base and this did the trick.So learn from my experience and purchase the stronger magnetic base. There will be times when you will need it. I don't know why the lower strength bases are made because when I tried to use it, it simply fell off the disc surface. I did ended up using the rods that came with it.

Either because of a bad metric conversion, the uneven surface of the base or wishful thinking, this is no where close to having 200 lbs of hold. I nearly sent it back but I'll use it to hold a broom or something.

Overall sturdy and good enough quality. There were no instructions with it, which it is pretty simple but the base rod can be screwed far enough in to interfere with the magnet being turned on and off. Just back the rod out until the switch can be flipped easily and then tighten the nut that came with it to hold in place. This will work with both eye hole and small rod indicator mounts. Starrett dials and Interapid test indicators.

Came with stripped threads on magnet base, the rod will not tighten and flops.

Less than 2 months old and broke. Waste of money and I love how Amazon takes care of its customers as well. NO RETURN. Sorry but you get to spend a lot of money with Amazon and take it in the rear when you order garbage and it breaks!!
