lowered the available heat to my pot. the name lets you know it's a diffuser, but the description made it sound like it would allow for maximum heat transfer. Not what i would have liked. not happy with the buy

Got a new glass top stove and this keeps from getting too much heat on pots and pans plus it protects the glass top!

Es una placa que calienta con mucha facilidad pero no trasmite el sificiente calor a otra superficie que se le coloque encima. Tarda mucho tiempo en calentar la olla que se le coloque enciama.

Description states it can be used on induction. I was excited to get to use all my pans on the induction heat using this but when I use this on induction my induction heater becomes over heated even on low setting.

There were no instructions with it, so get all your information from Amazon’s page. It feels substantial. My metal thickness gauge says it is .14 inches, a hair over one-eighth. On the edge you can see that it’s a sandwich of stainless steel and aluminum. A slab of only stainless steel would probably be more expensive (and heavier). My digital scale has it at 1 pound 13 ounces. The handle goes into the plate’s slot easily and is secure when moving the plate around – there is no sense that it might come loose. Getting it out is a little tricky and takes getting used to until you figure out the right angle: pivoting it up to nearly vertical and then lifting it out. They did a pretty good job smoothing all the edges on the plate and handle, but not so much on the handle end that fits into the plate slot. Maybe a little edge smoothing there would help with removal, but that might also make it feel less secure when moving the plate. Anyway, smoothing stainless steel edges on an odd shaped end is probably beyond the capabilities of most people. When I first saw the product online, I thought it might be good for heating tortillas, but the product description says not to heat food directly on it. I’m assuming that they either didn’t want to go to the expense of testing it for food, or there are things in the steel that you wouldn’t want on your food.I don’t have an induction burner yet, so no testing of that for now. Soon I’ll use it on our propane camp stove and then a smallish wood burning rocket stove so that it gets all the carbon blacking and not the pot I’m cooking with. I’ll update my review when I get around to that. It appeared clean of any manufacturing residue, but I washed it with dish soap anyway to make sure nothing would be burning off when heated. I did use it to test a new wood stove fan by heating it on a traditional electric kitchen range burner enough to make the fan run. It worked fine for that at a little more than medium heat. It discolored slightly, but that was expected.Long term I’d be concerned that the stainless steel and aluminum would separate. Aluminum expands at almost double the rate of steel, which creates forces inside the sandwich and I don’t know how the manufacturer dealt with that. I saw a review for another brand where separation occurred. I see that diffusers are available in cast iron, but they are probably significantly heavier.

I bought this to use an an “induction converter” as it is described, so I could use a non-stick coated, solid aluminum pot on my glass-top induction cooktop. It did not get hot enough to transfer enough heat to the aluminum pot to get water warmer than a bare simmer, i.e. just 212 deg. F (100 deg. C.), even on the max setting of the heating element, which the induction heater indicated is supposed produce 450 deg. F. (This cooktop has no problem getting iron containing pots VERY hot)Gave 2 stars only because it otherwise seems well made and might be good as a “diffuser” only on another type of heating element
