Love these mittens! They’re so warm

I ordered a size 8 since I have pretty large hands, but these gloves are too small. I would have ordered size 9 if it was available but 8 was the biggest available at the time. I am not even sure a 9 would have been big enough though. These seem to have decent insulation but there is a insulation on the back of the gloves that shifts around easily. I did not have an easy time putting these on or taking them off without shifting the insulation all around. I offered these to someone with smaller hands but they were not interested in mittens.

In short, these mittens are awesome. As an avid mountain snowshoer, I need hand coverings that keep my hands warm at 10,000 feet but give me enough freedom of movement to handle a pair of poles. There is clearly a break-in period for these, but they loosen up quickly and feel like they conform to the contours of the wearer. The velcro straps on the wrists are rad. Thoughtfully designed. No problem loosening or tightening them with the mittens on. The extra long cuff provides plenty of overlap between the mitten and a winter coat. Plus, they just look good -- the leather looks sharp. I'm going to get a ton of use out of these on the trail!

My initial reaction to these mittens was not favorable. I tried them on and the paw space (hand minus thumb, a term I just invented) was decidedly constricted. And there was a protruding lump that bothered the back of the “paw.” Could I have been mislead by the sizing chart? I investigated. The problem was soon discovered to be a thick translucent piece of plastic foam material in each mitten, which I later found was featured as a high tech insert by the manufacturer. The insert is claimed to remove moisture due to strenuous activity. I think that this feature is a fault. I am too old for such strenuous outdoor activity and, regardless, the loss of extremity blood flow caused by the insert will make my hands cold in the mittens long before the bother of any moisture buildup. And mittens are supposed to be warmer than gloves by reducing the heat loss of the otherwise exposed fingers. All was well after the removal of the offending inserts. Excellent workmanship and materials. The company offers a mitten replacement for free if the mate decides to run off (which I have never seen in the wild of my homestead but it must happen because it has happened to me. They must be of a species that does not mate for life). But where to keep the mitten literature which has the telephone number required for the replacement offer? I know, I will just call now and play the odds that I can predict which one will fly the coop!My recommendation is to purchase the mittens and reserve the inserts for storage, or lose the inserts altogether and stuff the mittens with tried and true newspaper, if you are a dinosaur and still subscribe to a newspaper.

I ski and snowboard frequently during the winter, and am often riding in full white-out conditions up in the sierra nevada mountains of california. I have had many different gloves and mittens over the years, and appreciate a high quality glove. These gloves are definitely warm- not the warmest Ive ever had- but I don't think I'd have any issues with these unless I'm out in extreme winds and near sub-zero temperatures. So far I've worn them for a few 30-degree days with 20-30mph winds and the gloves were more than adequate. I like that they have a large cuff that is easy to tuck over a heavy coat. They are also very easy to slide on and off on ski lifts. One important feature for ski gloves is that they NEED to have a place to clip on a glove leash so you don't lose your gloves on the lift. These have two solid attachment loops that can be used for a glove leash. It would be nice if the gloves came with wrist leashes for this purpose, though I'm not docking any stars for this as most gloves these days don't come with wrist straps. The leather looks nice and appears to be real. They are fairly stiff , but that is to be expected with real leather gloves and I think it will loosen up as they break in. The pattern on the inside of the cuff is also really cool looking and adds a nice sprinkle of zest to the look.Overall, these seem to be on par with the quality I would expect at this price point. They are great looking gloves and I have no doubt they will serve me well throughout the season and into the next.
